Purdy was very good today and I think you have to ride that train as long as it is rolling down the tracks like that. He had some really great plays. He also had some where the wrs made great plays. Called his own number a few too many times in the second half. Kid was not afraid to throw the ball down field, which when successful really opens up the running game. The OSU defense is not great, but the Clones needed every point they got to win, so there was certainly plenty of pressure on Purdy to keep scoring.

That's sort of in their job description.

If we loss the next two games and have to play Texas yet it might be on the table due to the new 4 game redshirt rule.
If he gets dinged up due to his aggressive running style, then YES.

I don’t understand your argument. Are you saying Kansas’s defense was stellar when Richardson played them?
No. I'm saying KU was a horrible team all around on offense and defense that year, while OSU has a decent offense and no defense this season.

All I'm trying to do is not anoint Purdy to be the greatest QB ever, because we have all done this before after an awesome debut, and used Richardson as an example. Purdy may end up being great, but let's see how he does these next two games, see where Kempt is with the injury and go from there. If Purdy shows regression like many before him have, and Kempt is 100%, I would not be opposed to redshirting Purdy.

REDSHIRT EVERYONE!!!! I don’t know what it is but there is an almost sexual fixation on redshirting players in football and basketbal with a segment of the ISU fan base.

That’s because historically, ISU never had freshman that were talented enough to play as freshmen and had to develop.

Brock is ready and proved it yesterday.

The other angle is recruiting. Coach Campbell has often stated, the best players will play. It doesn't matter what class they are in. We see that all over the field on both sides of the ball. Recruits hear that and they also see it.

Also...yesterday was fun!

OSU’s defense isn’t stellar, but they’re still 53rd in the country, even after is putting up close to 50 on them. ISU, on the other hand, who everyone thinks has an amazing defense, is only 20 spots above them at 33.

Based on what? I see that they are 90th in total D, according to ESPN.

This. We have, what, 5 freshmen that are starting right now? Throw the redshirts out on these guys and let them play. They are simply better than the upperclassmen in their positions.

Most were pretty high on the coaching staff in 2011 as well, which was year 3 of CPR.

As soon as Purdy takes a sack on 4 and Goal, when we're down 7, and there's 10 seconds left in the game, we can talk about redshirting him. Until then Sam Richardson is in his own league.

CF is the home of weird uniform and redshirt fetishes. It's kinda creepy!

Hey CF gals, if your guy speeds a lot of time here obsessing about uniforms and redshirts it may be an indication of more deep seated issues.

Scoring defense.

Yup and prior to yesterday's game they were right there with the Sooners at #51. We will all drop some when the stats are updated since Cyclones, Sooners and Cowboys gave up LOTS of points Saturday as did Texas who was at #31.

BTW, Gophers were at #19 and probably should be thrown out of the Big 10 for giving up 48 at home to Iowa. That's the equivalent of 70 or more points in the Big 12.

Personally, I think the kid still looks like a high schooler and for that reason we need to be careful with him. Running the ball a lot is going to be tough on his body, and another year in the weight room to prepare for the wear and tear wouldnt be the worst thing. Im sure others are also curious about Re-al.

I do think if the next two games go well and he is healthy, you give the kid the option to decide for himself (if you feel comfortable with the other options you have at the time) with the caveat that you may end up playing him again if needed.

This skill players don't come in wanting to redshirt. If you can contribute you will play

As long as he doesn't tank in the next few weeks, he plays. I think it would make everyone's head spin if we whooped WV and then rolled out Re-al against TT for another breakout performance. Then we would just alternate between the four preserving both redshirt while sporting a 7+ game winning streak. I can dream.
