I was just looking at West Virginia's schedule, and they are largely unproven. Best win is over TT, by 8, with 3 turnovers by TT (and TT is largely unproven too).

They would have had a good test against NC State. They did beat Tennessee but hard to say if that means much this year.

Granted, they have a tough back end with @texas / TCU / @OKSt / OU

Bama and Georgia from the all might SEC playing SOS's in the 60's and 70's. When will someone in the media have the guts to call them out? It's crazy how those teams get to skate, the SEC isn't what it was. Georgia will play 1 or 2 rated teams, Bama 2, 3 now that Miss St beat LSU (who got hyped whooping an extremely overrated Miami team). ISU has already played more top 25 teams than both of them combined.

Not to get too technical, but this is the Resume S&P+ which is different than the regular S&P+.
  • Regular S&P+ is an efficiency metric that is supposed to be forward looking/predictive; it answers the question, what is the likely outcome between two particular teams? It tries to see through garbage time stats, turnovers, etc to see how good a team is.
  • Resume S&P+ is backwards looking, and trying to determine the quality of a team's body of work to date.
These may feel like the same thing, but they are different (though they are typically correlated). In regular S&P+, WVU is 11th and ISU is 45th. That will push our win probability up a bit compared to the Resume S&P+ rankings of 9 and 50. On the Football Outsiders site, they break it down by Off/Def/SpTeams as well. WVU hasn't faced a team with a defense ranked higher than 76 in defensive S&P+ yet this year (NC State cancelled due to hurricane). Our defense is currently sitting at 33.

If we win Saturday, I think we're back in the mix to avoid Incarnate Word. Would need to win out, which is crazy talk, but possible.

Agree, let's win Saturday before resuming the crazy talk.

While I appreciate the sentiment, you don't get to call out Bama. At this point in time Bama losing a game is more newsworthy than them winning yet another national title.

So just because their Bama, they don't have play anyone or be held to the same scrutiny as everyone else? When they don't play anyone, its obviously going to be rare when they lose.

Well, yeah. That’s why this is about SOS. Not much chance of anyone beating them.

I predict we are gonna really rue that TCU loss... just like OkSt last year....

No kidding. Once we get done with WVU, besides Texas we've gone thru the toughest of the Big 12. A chance to really make some hay.
