How Does Brock Purdy Compare?

Fully expect that Brock Purdy will have some lessons to learn. But we all saw the potential he has. Seneca and Sage had terrible games. Oklahoma absolutely shut down Seneca. Heisman Run was finished.

IMO this is a situation where what we saw last Saturday is what the team has been seeing all along. Brock Purdy forced Campbell to play him. And the only way he keeps playing is to keep performing. Iowa State was expected to lose anyway. Nothing to lose. Play the Kid. The potential is there. And with the experience from this year, I like the way things are looking for next year.

I saw a little Baker Mayfield in his game. Obviously one game, but that first toss on the run to Butler was classic Mayfield.

I hate making comparisons because every player is their own individual person, but if you're forced to make one, yes, Purdy's game looks so similar to Baker Mayfield's.

They're both about 6'1" I believe, not the fastest guys in the world, but great scramblers with great vision, and both use pump fakes a lot too. Hopefully Purdy is as accurate as Baker too.

Horse Collared a couple of times going out of bounds. And a grabbing of face mask area another time.

His awareness of 1st Down marker was very good. Purdy does need to realize his value and not sacrifice his body so much. But those second effort crucial runs were epic. And needed. And makes him who he is.

I have been kicked in the nuts so many times that I am not concerned. I have nothing to lose. Who cares if I am wrong about Purdy and he is a flash in the pan? But this kid is different. He has some magic. Those were big time plays against a Top 25 team at their house with the outcome of the game in doubt every time Purdy made a great play to give us the edge. This wasn’t a nothing game against a basement dweller that we blew out with no pressure. No offense to Sam, but he was always a guy who just didn’t quite finish the game on top. Just short. Not quite. Brock Purdy is a gamer. Roll the dice and see where he leads us. We have the ability to strike in multiple ways from all spots on the field. And Purdy is going to push it downfield to those big receivers as well as the fast guys. And he can put the ball in a window versus tight coverage. That is what makes me enthused.

The kid really seems to be the real deal. Started out rough, could have really got ugly from there. He pulled up the swagger pants and got back to work. Really amazing what he is able to do and how confident he is able to look as a freshman.

Who knows from here on out but his resolve is impressive. He started out about as bad as possible and just figured some things out to at least move the chains.

His style of QBing is what this offense needs. Even just side stepping a would-be tackler does a lot to create space for others since the defense has to respond.
