In watching all the replays, Butler had pinned the DB on the ground with his knee, and wasn't letting him up. I have no idea what transpired immediately prior to that, which of course could have had a lot of bearing on what Butler did.

Anyway, Baylor came rushing to their teammate's defense, and the brawl was on.

Good stuff.

Imo a point needs to be made that the refs needed to shut things down right after the late hit on ISU's sidelines. The post-scrum taunting should have been flagged, and then both coaches should have been pulled together or something to communicate to their teams that the next act of any kind is disqualification.

Letting something continue to boil over was just bad management on their part. The result is lack of safety and control of the players, and the general public making easy assumptions that someone like David Montgomery is a thug and shouldn't be allowed to play football (already had one co-worker this morning basically say that without even being asked about their opinion on it) since the full 4 play sequence/explanation isn't being portrayed.

Or Butler couldn't stand up because the BU DB had both arms wrapped around the back of his knees which forced Butler to lean forward for balance and press down on the DB...

From the article:

"If somehow West Virginia would lose to Oklahoma State and then beat Oklahoma, there would be a three way tie. The tiebreaker would then drop to record vs. the fourth place team (Texas). Iowa State and West Virginia both beat Texas and would play in the championship game."

Nitpicking here, but that's not quite right. It would be Iowa State v. West Virginia, but for different reasons:

ISU/WV/OU are in a three-way tie. Round-robin's 1-1 for each team.

So we go to the next tiebreaker: records against the 4th-place team, which is Texas (assuming they beat Kansas). ISU and WV beat Texas, but OU didn't, so ISU/WV continue on in the tiebreakers. ISU beat WV head-to-head, so they'd be the conference winner.

But...WV is not automatically the runner-up for finishing second in that tiebreaker scenario. The tiebreakers for second place start over from scratch.

So after we cross out ISU, it's OU and WV in a tie for second. WV beat OU, and that's when we can say the Big12 CG is Iowa State/West Virginia.

Doesn't matter in this specific scenario, but just making the tiebreaker logic clear.

I'd recommend watching more in depth replays.

He didn't pin down the Baylor player with his knee.

I'm unsure why it really matters if he was pinning the CB down. Play was still live and is pretty common place to keep your guy from getting off the ground. Whistle blew and then he attempted to get up, and that's when CB held his leg and causing this fight.

Agreed. They had an opportunity to calm things down and whiffed. The players still have to take responsibility for what ensued but it never should have gotten to that point.

DM just let his emotions get the best of him, he knows it. Just have to walk away. BU was already flagged.

Hey, I'm not saying Butler started the whole thing - it had been chippy for quite awhile already. But to say we were totally innocent in the deal is just not correct. I will say that Baylor probably came in with a chip on their shoulder, because their defense had been chirping all night.
