While I know who you are speaking of ( and its a GREAT comparison IMO) we arent exactly OU. With that said, I DO love his attitude, just wish he would control it, and learn to harness that nastiness:yes: LJ has a great future if he just listens and learns from GC and our other fearless leaders:yes:

And we won't be an OU, or anything close to an OU unless we have players that make plays. And LJ is one of those guys...

If that is what you really think some people here are saying, I'd suggest you go back and read the comments again.

i.e...."...a personal foul,..."

We're talking more than one personal foul. We're talking two IN ONE GAME....IN ONE HALF OF ONE GAME. The second being a flagurant foul.

You may want to win at any cost (ie..our team's reputation be damned) , but I don't think that is where most fans are at this point.

Watch his first one. The guy is baiting him, and then dives to the ground when LJ reacts. Just a weak call. He's got to learn not to get baited into that, though. What I'm talking about are people that want him off the team. These are the same people that will cry that we don't have a winning team in a couple of years if guys like LJ and tossed aside. And I can promise you that if we throw guys that play aggressively, like LJ does, off the team, we won't win many games ever. At least not in the Big XII. We may be able to do a heck of a job in the MAC, if that's what you guys are hoping for....

I didnt read this thread but its pathetic...hes a talented player that plays till the whistle, enough said. I loved the hit, quit over-analyzing everything that happens in a football game.

Hard to argue your point... Because we DO need his talents!!! But at some point you have to draw the line. I do hope LJ is around for a while and has an outstanding career, but please no more boneheaded plays:no: We, being a "lower" caliber big 12 team simply cant afford to lose our best defensive player for 3/4 of a game:no:

Doesn't matter. Do you recall the video that was posted about Mitch King being a dirty player? He is a good player. No matter how great LJ turns out to be, he's still going to be known as a dirty player, and frankly, he's kinda earned it. That hit on the quarterback was absolutely inexcusable, and I wouldn't have a huge issue with a game or two suspension after his mandatory suspension. Yes, emotion is involved, but someone running on pure emotion without something between their ears is a liability.
some the best players are dirty players. rodney harrison is known as probably the dirtiest player in the NFL but hes been all pro forever. you guys are blowing this whole situation wayyyy out of proportion

LJ obviously is struggling with the balance between aggression and judgement. That doesn't make him a bad kid....yet. I am sure the coaches will have a couple of good talks with him, and he's probably going to be better conditioned after this week:wink:. Beyond that, I don't see anything more being necessary.

Whatever happens with LJ, the personal fouls are killing this team, and we've got to get that under control.

The guys a freshman, he's aggressive and working hard. This is not exactly like off field stuff here. The problems will be corrected and he'll learn from this. But to kick him off? That's way over the top.

I'm not voting, I don't know him, I don't know his explanation, it's not my job, and I'm not Gene Chizik. It's his job, and I trust he'll do what he needs to do to get through to the kid.
outstanding post!

I think he just lost his head in the heat of the moment. He looked like he was near tears on the sideline afterwards and looked pretty remorseful, so it may have been the best thing to happen to him to open his eyes about having some mental toughness. The run him till he pukes method should also make him think twice next time.

You love our players playing like complete morons? Making us look dirty and embarrassing our entire university? That's like a Hawk fan saying "i loved that rape". Seriously.....

A hit on a football field - no matter when it happens and how it happens - is vastly different from a sexual assault. There is no comparison. None.

I have not read all the posts but I think LJ was a quarterback in HS so playing defense may be kinda new to him. I'm sure the coaching staff is coaching to be aggressive and that is what he is doing now they need to coach him to use better judgement. I think the suspension he got automatically (rest of game and next game) is enough and I'm sure the coaching staff will be all over him the next few weeks.

There is no room for condoning a cheap shot either, and that's what Johnson did. He took a cheap shot, and it was his 2nd one of the drive. When the play is that far over, it is the equivalent of jacking him out on the street. It's bush league, and something I hoped I would never see our players do. I'm a little worried that Gene doesn't have control over this conduct, as well.

LJ is a true freshman. Yes, he is agressive. Yes, he made a boneheaded play and has made a couple others. But I would still want him to be aggressive rather than the passive pathetic nonaggressive play that results in ZERO personal fouls. He just needs to play smarter and focus his aggressiveness more into legal plays. Remember also that this is a young man who is possibly a new position at a major college level. LJ will serve a one game suspension and probably suffer some other form of punishment from Chizik. And possibly even a little bit more limited playing time until he proves himself.

All of this BS that the personal foul embarrassed the University and such is way overblown. This is a kid who made a couple misjudgments and will be suspended for 1 game. But for some of you to call for him being kicked off the team and revoking his scholarship are being totally ridiculous. To put it into perspective, what did Hayden Fry do to Bielema after his ridiculous comments to Cyclone Coach Jim Walden? Now THAT is an embarrassment.

To sum it up. LJ made a couple personal fouls. He will be suspended for 1 game. Chizik will take care of it. But for some of you calling for LJ's head on a platter. Why don't we just recruit a bunch of non-aggressive good sports that seem not to care that they get their butts kicked every week and can't win a game? A personal foul in a game is a lot better IMO than continued assaults and robbery.

The amount of personal fouls is rediculous. Chizik needs to lay the law down and tell the team that if anyone else gets another one, they're done for the game or even more games. It's costing us hard earned yardage each time.

Just got back from the game. I will tell you - that was a horrible display. Embarrassing. The first personal foul happened right in front of us - Chizik was chewing on LJ after the play. Then, the VERY next play he is in, the late hit on the QB. I'm glad he's got fire and everything, but he isn't learning. I personally say kick him.

I cannot believe anyone actually wants a freshmen kicked off the team for this! Have any of you ever coached? My goodness. If he would've robbed Kum & Go we'd all be talking about second chances, etc. His mistakes CAME ON THE FIELD. This is unreal.

Preface: I like LJ a lot. He is going to be a GREAT, if not the best corner to come out of Iowa State. And I truly think he is a good kid.

Problem: He can learn to tame his aggression for most of his career, but at some point it will come back to bite us in the *** big time, in a big game.

Did anyone listen to the TV broadcast. The announcers even said the guy who was blocking LJ on his 1st PF penalty was KNOWN for "holding his blocks through the echo of the whistle."

The last thing I am doing is rationalizing for end zone PF. That was unsportsmanlike in every definition of the word. But the fact that people would actually kick off the team for that is unreal. You think Urban Meyer would kick somebody of the team for that? People around here sure talk like they want a winning FB program. I'm not sure they really believe that. I think they'd rather have nice guys who help the guy up after every play.

COACH HIM. He's 18.
