I think the whole “hate recruiting” thing was for cover when he left here. Everyone bought it, so it worked. Fred told everyone what they wanted to believe, not necessarily the truth.

It wasn't and he said it when he thought he was off the record even to non ISU fans

I know his dislike of recruiting has been made known, but I think he may have a newfound appreciation of being in charge of roster construction. Alot easier to not be stuck with a bunch of people that don't fit your style when you are the one recruiting them.

This was when he thought he was off the record too people

Fred, would you rather:

"Just coach" a team where you have no control of the make-up leading to players who don't fit your system? And lose a lot.
or
Coach a team and have to recruit but have the capability to surround yourself with players who fit your system? And win a lot.

Man I want to party with a recently fired, living his best life off a 25 million dollar buyout Fred.
it wasn't a 25MM buyout. Just 25MM guaranteed over 5 years... he is at half way through year 4.

Neither probably if we're being honest

Man NBA is tough game. They fire him right before he gets his roster back from injuries. They didn't want him to be able to win.

If he comes back to college, good for him. I can buy that he wants to coach college again, I don't buy into him taking the Bulls job just so he could leave ISU for another college gig 4 years later. He had a final four potential roster the year he left.

While I certainly agree with you - Parrish (and others) wouldn't be saying that without having sources at least hinting at Hoiberg back to college.

Here's another example:

Remember when CW said he basically had an article written about Fred coaching at Ohio State? And then Fred said that was false? There was a reason why CW thought about writing that and it wasn’t because he thought there was no chance Fred would coach in college again.

The “hates recruiting” line was always ******** to placate Iowa State fans and most of them bought it. He never hated recruiting as much as he didn’t like coaching at Iowa state. And that’s understandable. It was a fish bowl for that family. He’ll take another college job at a more perforable school.

Just think about how the CBB game has changed since he left. Transfers are almost as big of a recruiting challenge now as HS kids are.

Yeah, he’d have to change his strategy.
