He's not going anywhere next year. He gets a guaranteed $5 million as long as he doesn't take another head coach job in the NBA. I'm guessing he's going to take that time to spend with his family.

What would be awesome is if he's so bored sitting at home that he decides to come to help Prohm here in Ames for some "pro-bono" work on the Cyclones offense.

Might be more likely he does that with Michigan state considering his son plays there.

The T-wolves at least have KAT. Other than that they are they same.

But will they ever attract the free agents to get to a complete team that can compete? Credit to them for signing Towns instead of losing him like most of their previous young guys. But I won't believe they can be a contender until I see it.

Please don't downplay the immediate turn around and how quickly put program back on national map.

He may have had 5 NBA players - but best among that group is a backup NBA PG. Not forgetting how awesome these guys were to ISU - but not like it was a Kentucky/Kansas NBA roster.

NCAA tournaments are a crapshoot... i'll remember the big 12 championships instead.

Oh I’m not. He did one helluva job turning it around. And quick.

But let’s not act like he was Coach K out there. My response was more towards anyone out there thinking we should fire Prohm and rehire Fred (in response to the poster who said that).

Some thought they knew in May of 2015 this was going to be an epic failure and that in 3 years both Iowa State and the Bulls would be in worse shape. He should have stayed at ISU.

FIFY

CFH played a nice role here for a few years. It was not known by everyone that we would be in worse shape in 3 years. Some Chicken Littles, yes, everyone, no. As it turns out we are in better shape.

His tenure with the Bulls was a front office dumpster fire. If gar/pax are still in charge and Jabri is still a Bull, I am done with this team. Fred had his faults as a coach but what the **** did they think would happen this year? Best case scenario was maybe sneak in with the 8 seed in the weaker east, but even then what do you get from that? Lose in the first round have no shot at the draft lottery.

Bulls fan here too. There have been way too many WTF moments for GarPax. The DWade signing made no sense after they had just said weeks before that they wanted to go in a younger direction. The Parker signing was dumb this year, he plays the same position as their best player and is not a SF. Jury is out on if LaVine is worth the money they gave him, he's a nice complimentary player on a good team but he's not a superstar. Their draft picks have not really been that impressive partially because they miss on guys and many times they were just mediocre enough they picked at spots in the draft it's hard to find the types of guys you need to build a roster with.

Not this year, Prohm has finally put together a roster that can compete for a Big 12 championship and you can see the talent level on this years team. That being said we've had 3 straight years of underwhelming basketball.
Really? Maybe last year seemed like three years, but the previous two were not underwhelming. We went to Sweet Sixteen in Prohm’s first year and won the Big 12 tournament the second. In both years, we finished with over 20 wins and 10 of more wins in conference.

Any incremental help CFH could bring here would be outweighed by the distraction. CFH can send CSP a video of some inbounds plays and that should do it. Unless he has connection to a recruiting pipeline somewhere but we know that is not what CFH does.

Let him remain a Cyclone legend, welcome him back with fanfare occasionally and let CSP do what he is doing.

ARE YOU ******* DRUNK!?!?! HE WON THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT IN 2017 AND WON A GAME IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. ONLY 3 COACHES IN IOWA STATE HISTORY HAVE BEEN TO MORE NCAA TOURNAMENTS THAN STEVE. HE'LL TIE TIM FLOYD THIS YEAR. STOP WITH THE MADNESS.

I never understood what he saw in the Chicago job. Oh well, I guess it would be hard to turn down your friends and a chance at your dream job.

The Massive Paycheck, I wish ISU had the money to keep him, he was on the verge of taking the program to greatness.

Remember Jamie saying in a press conference, his last deal at ISU was the most they will pay. I knew at that Point Fred was gone. :(

The “hates recruiting” line was always ******** to placate Iowa State fans and most of them bought it. He never hated recruiting as much as he didn’t like coaching at Iowa state. And that’s understandable. It was a fish bowl for that family. He’ll take another college job at a more perforable school.

What college job that is bigger than Iowa State won't be a fish bowl? Because of the constant roster turnover in college sports, the head coaches are the biggest celebrities of the programs. He'll be in a fishbowl wherever he goes if the program is "bigger" than Iowa State. You don't think the head coaches at UCLA, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky live in fish bowls?
