KU Loses to ASU

Definitely I think play KU earlier is better fit for us. LW and Young looks OK in last game, and we don't really want play with full recovery Azubuike. We just don't have enough body to hold him, not Jacobson, not Young or Lard. Adding LW back impact is smaller than KU adding Azubuike back.

To some degree, I think ASU is similar to ISU, strong guard play with undersize and mobile center. Neither Jacobson or Lard can contain Lawson, he will get his share no matter what. But it is totally different he is paired with Marcus Garrett or paired with Azubuike. Right now KU is two man games with Lawson and Vick; it is very likely ISU can contain everyone else except Lawson. We have tons of long wings like THT, Shayok and Haliburton, they will give Vick hard time. Lock on Vick, and give Lawson as much trouble, it is our key to win the game.

I've watched KU 5 or 6 times, and every other Big12 team at least twice except Baylor. I think KU, TCU, ISU and TTech are clearly the top four four teams, in no particular order. KState losing Wade falls back to the middle tier (WV is now a bottom 3 team). OU is playing well but I think they are a notch behind the top 4.

The regular season title is wide open this year, more than any recent year. I rather play KU right now than TCU, given the latter has better point guard play.

No, Ku will win it again. It's certainly not wide open even if they're challenged. Maybe a couple challengers at most. But I agree with your top four if not the order. OU might be five. Wade won't be back until halfway through the conference schedule, maybe the second Ku game at AFH. Texas is underwhelming with Shaka at the controls. WVU, oSu, and Baylor are not very good this year. The league is just not as deep as last year.

Agree with your top four and TCU guard comment, but the trade off with KU is their NBA front line. We'll match up with CheatHawks better later in the year with Solo and Cam at full strength.

Couple comments:

Be a shame if Wade isn't back before at KU on 2-25. I like KSU's disciplined smart play. Good guards and Mawein seems much improved from last year.

Texas has as much talent as anyone, they're a wild card...who they decide to step up against.

Just think newbies' Dotson, Grimes, and Moore will have some problems on the road over the course of the B12 grind. I don't think ASU played their best game and still won.

Maybe wishful thinking but I expect a tie for 1st and/or with some luck/karma, KU coming in 2nd.

TCU scares me more than TTech, great guard play, depth, and their Fr. big-man is getting better each game.

Disagree. I'd rather play KU early in the season before Self inevitably transforms them into a way better team.

Other than Vick being a senior, the others on KU are primarily freshmen or sophomores. ISU has 3 5th year seniors and a 4th year junior all of whom have experience playing in different conferences and on different teams. I think to a large extent, that offsets the KU players' higher ratings coming out of high school.

KU will improve over the season but so will ISU. In an unexpected way, ISU has more room for improvement than if the 4 players who were out earlier had played in every game. The bench being forced to play in games also strengthened the bench and I'm sure that experience will be needed in some of the conference games.

Azubuike + Lawson reminds me couple of years ago tournament when we face Purdue. We thought our wings can control Issac Haas and Swanigan by our mobility and shooting. Answer is no. At least we need some big body to contain them in 1st place, then consider use small ball to attack them. We simply don't have the body...

I think we have better odds to play with a KU without Azubuike or 50 percent of Azubuike

It may appear to be a decent win at the end of the year to the selection committee which is all that matters. However, I think some of this Drake hype train that the local media has been all aboard is getting to some people's heads....they are really not that good.

Weak schedule? Don't know what computers you are looking at but I wouldn't trust it.

I still think it was a very good win for the team, something I posted before. Drake is well-coached and has grit as shown in the come-from-behind double OT championship win recently. The biggest benefit to ISU was knowing they can win down the stretch when behind by buckling down on D, something they can draw upon in similar situations in the future. Bonus if the win helps with the selection committee.

Azubuike is a junior and is fully back from his injured ankle now and Dedric Lawson is a redshirt junior.
