Peavy Draft position

How is Peavy looking on mock drafts? I know he almost declared last year and decided to stay but I haven't seen or heard anything about him.

Not much on his profile yet, as he is more expected to be a mid-to-late round selection. I know people who have commented on his draft stock all mention his size as a hindrance, but every one also states that his production is too consistent and impressive for him to not get a shot with somebody. Whether that's as a slot or outside cover guy, that is yet to be seen.

Probably pretty low on most boards due to his size and speed or lack thereof. I think for sure he'll be fighting for a roster spot in someone's camp next summer but it might be as a lower round guy or undrafted free agent.

I hope he gets drafted somewhere and doesn't have to do the un-drafted free agency thing. How come last year he had more momentum after the season then this year?

Tbh, I don't remember much momentum around him last year so I can't really say.

I would love if Zimmer and the Vikings picked him up in the 6th round or something. I think he can compete in the NFL. He'll never be a shut down All-Pro guy, but he certainly has the skills and IQ to hold his own.

One thing sticks out to me about Peavy that could hinder him for the draft (besides his size): 6 career INT

Saw that stat pop up during the Alamo Bowl on the other night, and I was shocked he only had 6. I know he's a shutdown guy, and people don't throw his direction a lot. But 6 in 4 years is not great, and shows he's not necessarily a ball-hawk. Just my pedestrian opinion.

Yeah, I hope his overall performance gets him a look. It seems like he could be a pretty good slot corner at the next level. But you just never know. This time last year I thought AL was a solid second or third day pick and we all know how that turned out.

I'd be shocked if he got picked. A good indicator will be who gets invited to the combine

He wont be drafted purely due to his height. 5'9" is a small cornerback. Look at last years draft for cornerbacks, not a single one was 5'9". Only 7 out of 32 total cornerback that were drafted that were 5'10"

Not always, but they're pieces of the whole puzzle that evaluators use to put their boards together. I'm not saying he won't succeed at he next level. I'm just saying that his measurables aren't going to help him any when it comes to draft position.

But there's more than one way to carve out an NFL career. Plenty of guys start out as undrafted free agents or bounce around some before they stick somewhere. I'm a Colts fan so I always use them as an example, but a guy named Kenny Moore II had an outstanding game for them on Sunday night. He's been their best corner all season. 5'9, 180, waived by the Pats out of training camp last year.

If that is a negative then NFL scouts are worse than I thought. That stat has to be looked at in context. No one throws to him and we don’t play a turnover type defense.

The shutdown corner on a team often has less picks because the opposing team throws away from him more often than not.

Hate to make this comparison, but Desmond King was a lockdown DB for Iowa, and finished his career with more than double what Peavy has (14). Iowa might be a little more aggressive defensively than we are, and I hate to rag on Peavy because I've loved having him in an I-State uniform the last few years, but I'd consider that a knock on him.

I'd say it's probably more likely he won't get drafted than it is he will get drafted.

Just doesn't have the measurables at all. I hope he does though.

I just went and looked at stats for the past 4 years. As a team we have 34 interceptions over that time. The highest per year was last year with 12. The stat has significantly more to do with our defensive style than his lack of interceptions by Peavy. He still has 18% of our interceptions over his time here.
