Some people (men and women) have a strong interest in fashion for sure. But it's annoying that it's all women at these events get asked about. There was a movement a year or so ago about Ask Her More or something like that that was encouraging reporters to ask about the work instead of what she was wearing.
The idea behind that movement had good intentions, but the red carpet at these things has always been the 'fashion show' part of the evening. Inside the show itself is when the performers get noticed for their talents (acting/singing/directing,etc).
Outside of a runway show, the red carpet is a fashion designer's super bowl. For the most part, regarding these events, the fashion industry is heavily skewed towards women with men usually being an accessory in a nice suit.
To be clear, I hate nearly everything about every award show out there already. Stories like this just reaffirm my position. All of that "who wore it better" crap isn't doing anything to help either.
