Heard another new theory. This one is on "what does the Night King want?"

Theory links the Song of Ice and Fire along with the Prince That Was Promised stories.

Song of Ice and Fire = Jon. Son of Ice (Stark) and Fire (Targaryen).
Prince that was Promised = Jon's son. This assumes Dany is pregnant.

The Night King will leave everyone alone and go back North if Jon and Dany give him their son, just like how the Night King left Craster alone when he was giving him his sons. The Night King will turn Jon's son into his heir, the next Night King.

To answer your question, I think it has to be Jon. The story is about him (and his dad) for the most part. Jon or the Night King but I don't think he'll take over in the end.

My guess is Jon will be named to the Iron Throne once everyone knows he is the rightful heir. Each of the seven kingdoms (or nine provinces + the Wall) will then become their own territories and have their own ruler but will be unified on the same "team" with Jon as the de facto "leader" but he'll be hands off unless necessary.

Obviously if they die they're out but this is my guess:

Crownlands: Jon and Dany
Iron Islands: Yara or Theon Greyjoy
North: Bran
Reach: Samwell and Gilly
Riverlands: Jaime and Brienne
Stormlands: Gendry and Arya
Vale: Sansa and Robin
Westerlands: Tyrion
Dorne: Ellaria if she lives otherwise Varys or Davos?
The Wall: Tormund

Jon kills Night King. Theon kills Euron. Jaime or Tyrion kill Cersei. A lot of lives lost along the way such as the Mountain (to the Hound in CLEGANE BOWL), Beric (to save Jon), maybe Greyworm (to save Dany/Missandei), maybe Melisandre (Jon or Davos for murdering Shireen), maybe Jorah (to save Dany), Podrick (to save Brienne), Qyburn (evil).

I think you're right on a lot of stuff. I still think the books are the basis for a lot of stuff, and Jon really is the unequivocal hero of the books. I could also see an election like somebody else said in the thread, because that's how the Watch chooses their leadership. That'd be a good twist.

Being less than 3 months away, I decided to start the ol' re-watch fest. I'm amazed that I still keep picking up little things I missed. The amount of characters and intertwined stories is so well done.
I need to do this too. I've read the books twice and still can't remember half the characters.

Kind of a click-bait title, if you ask me. It is more about people not happy the show is over more than the actual outcome of the story.

I think it's more of a meta commentary that nobody will be happy regardless of the ending. There are people who have been picking this apart for decades, many show watchers who have watched it forever, and it's basically impossible to please everybody.

Way up there

I've found myself watching a random rerun from early on in the series and something relevant 6 seasons later stands out. It seems basically everything that is going to happen, was talked about earlier in the series when it meant nothing. There aren't these crazy twists, most of it has been foreshadowed.
It's not spelled out or necessarily obvious but its in there.

This. the amount of blatant foreshadowing (that only becomes blatant once you've come to the event) is everywhere in the early seasons. It's a lot of fun to watch/pick up on hah

So, this theory is ripping off Steven King's SotC?

So much has been played up about the Stark chambers, and having to get the bodies back, etc. I can't help but believe that some kind of magic is going to happen. Maybe the statues animate, or the starks come back to life to fight the undead

I really doubt this happens.

Agree. Doubt it happens and don't want it to happen.

I think in a six episode final season, most of the parts are already on the chessboard. There will be a few surprises, but mainly just blood, gore, and intrigue between the main players. I cannot see stone giant Ned rising from the dead.

Patch face? Adrienne martell? I’ve been rewatching GoT in anticipation of season 8, but I can apparently barely remember stuff from the books. I’ll really have to go back and study up on the books if Winds of Winter is ever published. If.

Edit: Ok looked it up. Remember Patchface now. Surely tons of stuff I can’t remember tho...

I am kinda with you here. I don't think they come back to life, but I do think there is some magic that surrounds that place. Osha being afraid of it in season 1 was what sparked that thought for me, but not much had been discussed about them until more recently.

Maybe the white walkers cannot enter that area, just like the Three-Eyed Raven's tree? Not positive, but I'm with you on there being something more to the crypts of Winterfell.
