So what has he been doing for the past year? I read an article from last May that said he was getting ready to graduate in June of '18

didn't we have four freshman this year get arrested with one not on the team anymore? This idea that we are recruiting a bunch of choir boys might be wishful thinking by some folks.

Every kid in the program has the same opportunity to develop as a young man and as a football player. Right now, CMC's batting average is GREAT in recruiting and retaining those kids who are taking every advantage of those opportunities.

I think we can do better - than YOU in determining the character of a kid based on an interweb article.

I have not once judged his character. I think he's a lucky young man, given he robbed someone at gunpoint. I also think it could reflect negatively down the road. As I've mentioned several times on here, I work with young kids, both in football camps and in my role working with troubled kids. While I believe in second chances, I also know that the families of future recruits will notice that we brought guys with this background in when considering where their own kid should play.

Anyone getting the opportunity to play for CMC and in front of our fan base is a lucky young man

That he caught a break?

I guess it depends on how you define "caught a break." I've always thought of that phrase as implying that a person was somehow lucky.

I don't think luck determines your age. Instead, I think your age is determined by your date of birth and that is true for every person.

It's a huge risk because he's a convicted felon. If this goes bad it opens a huge negative recruiting door that could hurt future classes.

Answer me this, if he had signed with Iowa would this board let it slide?

Except he's not a convicted felon. He was charged as an adult but plead to juvenile charges.

I'd put the collective integrity and character of our kids up against any other program and like our chances. I'd put the integrity and character of CMC, CSP and JP up against ANYONE and like our chances.

I trust men of integrity, character and honor to make wise decisions when inviting young men into our program.

The law specifically called for him to be tried as an adult because he was carrying a lethal weapon.

Which is even more indicative of the fact that he must have otherwise been a good kid. All a statute like this does is shift the burden of proof. Commit a different type crime and it is the state's burden to prove that despite your juvenile status you should be tried as an adult. Commit a crime like this, and the presumption is you are treated like an adult unless you can carry your burden of proof that mitigating circumstances exist such that you should be treated as a juvenile. If this kid had a prior record, or gave the Court or prosecution any other reason to believe he couldn't be rehabilitated, then he wouldn't have carried his burden to prove he should be tried as a juvenile.

Has anyone considered that "Focus Town" may be exactly what he and his family were looking for so he could avoid the bad influences he had around him? It is pretty tough for a kid to avoid the bad influences when one of them is right there in his own household.

I'll be pulling for him and consider this issue moot. I would rather discuss him as a player.
