I have provided already the list of multiple reasons why KU is in their current situation. Vick is just one of a half dozen reasons. I have made no attempt to put this all on him.
Sure, it would be perfect if KU had a junior PG ready to step right in to the starting role but what recruit was going to spend his freshman year behind National PoY Mason (with Jr. Graham also playing) and then their soph season behind 1st team AA Graham? It's the unfortunate negative impact of having consecutive years of an elite player at PG.
I LOVE Devon Dotson's game. He is going to be a stud next year and has many great moments this year. But he's a freshman who still makes a lot of freshman mistakes. It's why you rarely see freshmen start at PG on great teams.
Grimes? Again, another player who I think will be really good next year. Same with Agbaji. But like Dotson, they still make a lot of freshment mistakes. And freshmen mistakes can be covered over if you have an established senior leader like KU normally has but unfortunately they just flat out don't have that this year.
I am not blamimg anyone for anything; just recognizing the situation we are in and the consequences of them on the team, teammates and the results.
Talent plays to their talent level at home when the crowd is rocking and the players are comfortable. Talent plays to their experience and leadership level on the road when things go sideways and it gets hard to beat even below average teams. We'll see if KU can learn quickly from their experience to date and change their leadership roles.
They are down but they arent eliminated yet. I wouldn't pick KU to finish 1st right now but it wouldn't surprise me by any means.
