Will Prohm ever win a championship?

I cant believe I just read through that whole thing...

We had one coach that won a reg season title, he liked to drink NattyLite and party with coeds.
Even the great Mayor couldn't win a title with all the talent he had. 4/5 NBA starters on the same team.
We play in the Big12, the trophy comes from the shop with KU's name on it.
Yes its disappointing the way the season is trending down in Feb, but for God sakes, relax folks.
Some people might see it as 'settling' but we have a coach that has 3 20+ win seasons, had shown to be a great recruiter, and has a tourney champ, and a sweet16 under his belt.

All I know is nobody in the conference get's more out of their players than Bruce Weber. They are always about 10 wins better than their talent level.

They also have 3 good seniors on their team that have been there for 4 years. 3 years ago they were 5-13 in conference play, 2 years ago KSU was 8-10 in conference play, last year they were 10-8. Last year people were saying he is a bad coach. He is 3-5 vs Prohm, with 2 of those wins coming last year.

Good perspective!

Prohm has done a good job at ISU. Not outstanding, but solid. My biggest problem with him has been his stubborness in trying something different. He has been hellbent on playing 4 guards all year. We play small ball no matter what.

Baylor was not shooting well from long range against us, but made their living by rebounds and putbacks. Did he change anything? No.

Today was starting to look the exact same way, but I see he put in Talley and Conditt, so I thought "hey, maybe he is trying something new, since the starters are not getting it done". That was short lived, even though Talley was highly effective in the couple of minutes he was there. Posting up Lard and Jacobson also seemed to work, but then we immediately go away from it and go back to running offense through Babb and Wigginton.

Agreed and my point is why do others get upset when this type of analysis is laid out.

I had the exact same frustration.

Based on resume and in-game coaching I’d go with the following:

1. Self
2. Huggy
3. Beard
4. Weber
5. Kruger
6. Drew
7. Dixon
8. Prohm
9. Shaka
10. Boynton

I don’t disagree with this, but the difficulty of the B12 the last few years has made guys like Kruger, Drew, and Dixon look like middling coaches, and I think you can only compare what Prohm has done recently versus what they’ve done recently. Since Prohm has been coaching in the B12, their teams have kind of struggled. It’s been a really tough league the last few years so I grade Prohm on a bit of a curve.

I really like Weber as a coach, but I expect Prohm to get to the tourney at a better rate over the long run. They had this great class of Brown, Wade, and Stokes, but otherwise his success has been with other people’s players.

Big 12 championship or national championship? Prohm gets a grade of very good so far. He’s got lots of opportunities to improve. The measuring stick is clearly Larry. Larry was a great coach who was gifted a great team. He didn’t recruit well at all. Prohm built this team and it’s still young. Prohm is also young. Haters GTFO.

I’m team Prohm.

Iowa State plays with both Lard and Jacobsen on the floor several times in every game. But neither is good enoigh to run anything through. You cant just "try something new" that doesnt have a chance to work.

Not sure why but Lard is not any bigger or better than he was a year ago and he plays with much less edge and aggressiveness than he used to.

Lard is picking up 10 fouls per 40 minutes. Hard to find any rhythm when you’re fouled by that much. If he keeps his life together and really works on his fundamentals on D, I think he’ll be back with a vengeance next year. Well, I hope at least.

It's also a lack of fundamentals. Other teams are feasting on offensive rebounds because we don't know how to box out. That's basic stuff that the coaching staff needs to address. Work on that and we are at least +3 in the win column.

He spent the majority of the summer in a rehab facility. That and the reason why he ended up in rehab would explain failing to get bigger.

This is an easy answer. The officials in this conference have targeted Lard as a fouler and if he wants to stay on the floor he can’t play with the aggressiveness of the average player. See his last 2 fouls in tonight’s game.

I think Prohm has done an outstanding job of recruiting, but I don't think he's done well as a coach. Fred usually started with a different group every year, but by this time of the season he had them playing as a team and close to their potential. This team has gotten worse as the year has gone along and look like they just met one another last week. How is that going to change in the future?

I haven't seen one minute of Lard and Jacobson playing at the same time and there's hundreds of posts on this site about wanting to see 2 bigs at the same time to see how it would look because we haven't done it all year, so I'm not sure if the ISU games show different players on your TV, but no clue where you came up with that one...

Yes, fans for sure know more than thd coaches who witness things in practice. Fire prohm. We can do so much better.
