Will Prohm ever win a championship?

I'm not as critical of us losing a game where we shoot 2-20 on 3's as the fact that we've sucked donkey balls guarding PnR and generally stopping dribble penetration Every. Single. Game. When we play a rotation full of athletic guards with good length that have every ability to do so.

How the **** the coaches haven't addressed that is beyond me and totally on them. It's a major reason for each and every one of our losses.

Watching this team, there seems to be a chemistry problem. It seems like the dynamic has changed since the first loss to TCU. The remark was made on the post game show that the team was spending extra time in the locker room after the game.

I'm not at the point of saying 'prohm should be fired', at least not this year, but its funny how some of the same characters who defended McDermott to the last minute are out here refusing to tolerate any criticism of Prohm whatsoever.

Its this kind of bitchass 'we can only expect so much, we're iowa state' thinking engrained in a segment of our fanbase that explains why reaching the next level never happens.

Well that, and 110 years of basketball history.

This is silly. By the way. You’re losing your mind Yet holding him to a different standard than any other coach in the history of this place.

Problems seems to be correctable. Wigginton is a great player, but it seems like he is falling in love with the 3 too much. When he committed, I remember watching a few of his Oak Hill games, and what made him great was his ability to drive into the lane and make layups or get fouled. He did that a few times today. I hope he starts to do more of this going forward.

You beat me to the punch by about 10 mins. I seriously can't understand the point of this thread. Still a lot of season left and Prohm isn't the only ISU Men's coach to fail at winning Reg season title

Yeah, it’s not about the games. It goes way deeper than that. Otherwise every other coach here has failed as badly, or worse than he has.

Consistently, no.

And a big part of winning a conference by 2-3 games would require being consistent to begin with in at least some aspect of the game.

There's spurts of different aspects going well but it's been a mess at times too. The only consistency this week has been to get behind, come back, get ahead for a bit, and then let the opponent dictate what happens at the end. What the cause of that is, is the question.
ok. ?

Said the people who wanted to hold on to Rhoads, McDermott, Morgan...

That’s funny. People wanted to hold on to Morgan, because he didn’t deserve to be fired it was a knee jerk reaction by pollard because people thought Iowa wanted to hire McDermott.

McDermott had no support by the end of his tenure. There were 7000 people in Hilton watching that last team.

Rhoads was different, he had done things no other coach in the history of the school had done. He also was the biggest victim of realignment.

But, please, by all means, continue with melting down.

For all three of those coaches, the programs were clearly getting worse or not getting better and were struggling to make postseason play. We were last place in the Big 12 last season, but are an easy NCAA tournament team this year. I'd say that's improvement. This is nowhere near the same situation.

I wish I'd never started this thread. The whole thing is stupid. Who can really say whether or not Prohm can win at a high level or what that will mean in the greater cosmos of Iowa state athletics. I hope he does win and I'm dead wrong. He's by all accounts a great guy who cares about the school and his players. I support that. A guy like him deserves to bring home a championship.

This thread was a major overreaction on my part. Sorry everyone for starting it.

Who's melting down? I've not even called on him to be fired. But by god, someone dares say 'this coach has some flaws' and there's a dedicated few of you that will come in to attack them, no matter how small the criticism. And when we do win, that same group comes racing in to jerk each other off and attack those posters again because they were 'right'.

Hey I purposely drove home without actually opening this site. I was mad too in the first half, and disappointed at the end.

That said. This team has absolutely no luck either.

Seems crazy after this week, but there are only 6 teams with more Quad 1-A wins than us. As we all know, our problems have come against middle of the road teams.

I have taken my daughter to a couple Twister Sisters games this season and I can’t tell you how refreshing it is. Solid fundamental basketball is so fun to watch. It would be even more fun to watch with the talent we have on the men’s team. 0 fundamentals. 0 game plan. 0 answer to the dribble drive. 0 rebounds. Very little heart.

Your right about the ladies playing really good ball this yr. But the last couple of yrs before this yr were ROUGH. If the ladies get seeded at home I hope some of the MBB fans will jump on the band wagon for the games in Hilton.

I think you make my point with your statement. You obviously don't think a seasoned coach will come to ISU. Meanwhile, VA Tech, TN, Auburn, etc...(not exactly basketball schools) seem to be able to get them.

But I actually think Prohm does some things better then even Fred, and will probably learn and get better in time. His major flaw is he makes few if any in-game adjustments. And right now that is a big flaw.

Are you fondly remembering some uninterrupted string of championships under a previous coach I am not aware of?

He had the perfect opportunity this year. Kansas is down and ISU had more talent than anybody else in the league. Instead of capitalizing, his team just completely implodes with inexcusable home losses and uninspired efforts against sub 500 teams. If he cant do it this year, I don't see how he is ever going to. I don't think he is building anything here. Just stuck on mediocrity.

OP doesnt go far enough. JSB doesnt go far enough. Jamie is the real problem and we will never win a Big 12 basketball title while he is our AD.

Jamie has proved he loves mediocrity and should be fired.

McDermott should’ve been fired after year 2. We were lucky he left.

Fred should’ve been fired after year 3 when he failed to win the Big 12 with a STACKED roster. At the minimum he should’ve been fired after the loss to UAB. He showed how terrible he is in Chicago.

Prohm should’ve been fired after 10-8 conference record year 1. The Sweet 16 was fools gold.

Eustachy proved you can win the conference in year 2. Until we get an AD that WILL hold our coaches to that standard we will continue to suck and be the laughingstock of the Big 12.
