Long teams that either play zone or kill it on rebounding and toughness

The only #1 seeds I don't want any part of would be Duke (with Zion) and Virginia. UVA would have embarrassed us if it wasnt for Niang scoring 30 points.

Basically all the top 25 teams have been listed minus Iowa. Lets play Iowa in a 4/5 matchup in Des Moines.

Funny thing is it happened in 2003. In Ames, in the NIT.

I think that's the last time they won in Hilton.
Oh I remember. I was not happy about that at all. Thankfully it was only the NIT. I’m glad the Hawks haven’t won in Hilton since.

Iowa State has advanced beyond seeding several times, but so far, hasn’t gone beyond that.
1986: R32 (7) ISU over (2) Michigan — lost to (3) N.C. State
1992: R64: (10) ISU over (7) UNC-Charlotte (now Charlotte) — lost to (2) Kentucky
1997: R32: (6) ISU over (3) Cincinnati — lost to (2) UCLA
2005: R64: (9) ISU over (8) Minnesota — lost to (1) North Carolina
2013: R64: (10) ISU over (7) Notre Dame — lost to (2) Ohio State
I mean a 9 over an 8 and a 10 over 7 plus losing the next round for all of these..I think this proves my point more than disproves. Every year some team lights it up and goes a few rounds too far. We are due

I didn't read the thread so I'm guessing this has already been said multiple times.

On a good day we can beat a lot of good to great teams which would probably include pretty much anybody seeded 4th or worse. At our best I think we could beat anybody on the 3 line and *maybe* a couple of the twos. Anything above that would be miraculous in my eyes. We could also lose to absolutely anyone in the field and our recent trend makes me think that is the more likely scenario. Anybody that runs a decent pick and roll or that has guards that can penetrate is going to spell trouble for us. Same with teams that crash the offensive boards.

This is a good bunch of kids and I'll pull hard and hope the best for them. I just can't get my hopes up or realistically say what they can or can't do. They're far too unpredictable for that.

I think if we can get the first game won, we will win the second to get to the Sweet 16. I'm sure there are a lot of teams that don't want to see ISU in the second round.

I agree, it demonstrates the point you intended, historically speaking. It would be cool to have ISU advance more than 1 round past its seeding every so often. Whether a team can be "due" for it is another matter, since law-of-averages idea doesn't apply.

Iowa State almost broke through that barrier in '86, '97 and '13.

Maybe. They're plan looked like to let Niang do his thing and challenge anyone else to beat them. McKay's lack of real down low skill set showed and Nader shot 5 times.

The irony of that game was always that UVA iirc was prone to slow starts but came out slingin' that night and ISU was actually decent at starts and the wheels came off for a bit.

I want to play Michigan and Michigan State, the two most overrated teams in America.

I still wonder how that game would've gone if UVa didn't get the early 17-point lead - plus being able to keep it at double digits for so long after that. Not a good type of opponent to have to dig out of a big hole.

The Iowa State team that played today. Seriously, does not matter who or where ISU plays, as they are not making it past the first weekend. Sheesh, they might not make it past their first game.
