My brother brought up something I hadn't thought of...with Hoiberg right next door it's going to be even harder to get the good Iowa high school recruits to go to ISU. Especially that Lipsey kid from Ames.

If he does end up at Nebraska, the Hoiberg fountain in my front yard is coming down as well as the Hoiberg wallpaper in my living room. The Hoiberg shower curtain is staying though because let's face it, it's stylish and practical.

Seriously though, that's going to suck donkey onions...and it's kind of a slap in the face to his alma mater.

Nebraska is the best opportunity for him. A program with basically zilch of a history. He is a legacy where his grandfather coached. Fans will love him and give him time. He's still close to his Iowa roots. He's in a major conference. Basketball isn't the biggest program at the school.

Go to a UCLA and he doesn't succeed in two years he'll be on the hot seat.

All that being said, I am not sure how much success he will have. Will be interesting to see.

I can't blame the guy for accepting a generous job offer, if what's being reported is true.

Will be interesting to see how long he's in Lincoln.

I don't think you should. I've been hearing this for a few weeks now from very strong sources.

I will believe it when it actually happens
I think he still hates recruiting. If anything he will probably hire assistants to handle that for him. It will be interesting if he is as successful at Nebby as he was here. The transfer portal isn’t a hidden pipeline anymore, and many coaches has adapted his spread it out offense that he help promote.

Transfer portal? Hidden pipeline? You got my brain working overtime, where's @IAMAIRBHG ?

All I mean was when Fred first came here transfer weren’t a big thing. Coaches saw them as damaged goods, but Fred didn’t. Now everyone goes after transfers. Iowa State showed that they can be program changers. Transfer U podcasts did a great job explaining this. Which reminds me, did they ever finish that series?

He’ll have a lot of damage control to do. Coaches are going to use the NBA and he hated recruiting even more than they did here.

Maybe Matt A can help buy some recruits.

I get why some are fairly not happy about it(only some though, there are a few that take him coaching college again as a personal attack against Iowa State, which is weird) but I'm happy he's back. College can always use some more good coaches. Going to Nebraska means he gets to pound on Iowa twice a year and piss them off even more too, which is very good in my book

As long as he doesn't cause too much damage to Iowa. Gotta keep Fran around.

If Fred takes the Nebby job and has success, he will only coach in college until the next NBA opportunity comes along. Five years max before he moves again.

Hoiberg was a favorite player and coach of mine. Never thought he would land that close. The BAD: I don't like the thought of him poaching some of our prospects,
The GOOD: Poaching leads to Nebraska kicking the HOKS ass year after year in the B1G, .opening up the east side of the state to our recruiting because TOE is dumpster fire.

Pretty indifferent to Fred at Nebraska. Not wanting him to fail, but not actively cheering for him either. Just kind of 'meh' for me.

Think of it this way...

I don't want Fred to fail and agree with people that is silly and petty, but I have enjoyed watching Nebraska basketball fail my entire life.

Something has to change.

Seeing that Prohm has pulled in the highest rated recruit seen at Iowa State. I’ll take our chances. Again that just the nature of the job too. Fred wasn’t the first and won’t be the last former coach we have recruiting battles with.

Yeah the news (if true) stings less since this year was our best class. Best freshman and pretty close to best transfers if not best.

If I had to bet a meaningful amount of money on this right now, I’d still bet against him ending up at Nebraska. I have no idea who Lars Anderson is though.

I personally think Prohm and Kane are going to destroy Hoiberg and Abdelmassih on the recruiting trail.

We'll see how the cult of Fred transfers to a non-basketball school. He'll get the Ames kid for sure, but I sort of doubt he'll end up with a lot of other good players.
