Prentiss Nixon

I think he starts, primarily due to his defense, but not sure he has ever played PG before. Here's a recap of his Junior season:

Started in 25 of the 27 games he played during the season, missing five due to a pair of injuries… Led CSU in scoring at 16.1 points per game (10th in the Mountain West) and hit a team-best 66 three-pointers (seventh in the league and 18th best single season at CSU)… Grabbed 1.48 steals per contest, ranking fourth in the MW and was second in the conference at 84.3 percent on his free throw attempts… Posted double-figure scoring 22 of 27 games played, leading the Rams in scoring in 15 games… Also continued to do the job on the defensive end, drawing 55 offensive fouls (a season-high five against Fresno State, Jan. 6) along with grabbing a team-best 40 steals (career-high five against New Mexico, Feb. 28) -- a staggering total of 95 turnovers created (23.4 percent of CSU’s opponent turnovers)... Scored a career-high 31 points on 8-of-13 field goal attempts (5-of-8 three pointers) and 10-of-11 free throws along with four rebounds at Arkansas (Dec. 5)… Followed it up with 25 points at Oregon (Dec. 8)… With his 27-point outing at Nevada (Feb. 25) surpassed the career 1,000 point mark and become the 28th Ram to accomplish that feat.

Gotta love the free throw percentage.

1 year transfers that began the season in starting lineup
Holden
Shayok
Beverly

1 year transfers that came off the bench
Brase
Bowie (started 8 games in season though)

I’d imagine nixon is a starter at least to begin the season.

There is a difference between combo guards and point guards. Prohm is stacking up on combo guards.

I think Haliburton will be the most like a true PG.

When I think of the difference, combo guards are looking to score first and distribute second.

PG’s are usually distributors that look to do that first.

To me Haliburton fills that role best. He has experience now so I can see him as the primary ball handler next year.

If we’re continuing with the 4 guard lineup, we absolutely need more consistency from our 3 point shooting. Outside of Shayok, I don’t think opposing teams viewed anyone else as a true threat from outside (Wigginton was coming along towards the end).
There were a couple games where we went off from 3, but seemed more of an outlier.

Agreed it hurt the effectiveness of both when they were on the court together. Having two guys that didnt look to score and struggled making plays off the bounce was a bad fit. Its why it was perplexing we didnt try out two posts or different offensive sets with shayok or tht in the midrange area.

Halliburton is the definition of a true PG, and Wiggi is not.

The ONLY reason to even consider Wiggi at PG is because that's what people think he needs to play in the NBA, so why not put him there to get experience, but Wiggi is not a PG, so that's the struggle.

But when you play with 4 guards, who is the PG is not that important IMO because multiple guys will be bringing up the ball for us. What is a LOT more critical for us is to get more shooters!! I miss the days of having 4-5 guys on the floor who could knock down 3's and therefore opposing teams had to guard out there. Like Niang for example. Teams could not leave him alone out there.

While I agree, assuming they are both back, Wigginton and THT aren't going to give the ball up to Haliburton if the have the opportunity to take it up themselves.

I love tyresse but man hopefully in the offseason he gets a more aggressive attitude. Meaning when he gets in the lane with ease take it to the rim or do a tear drop, enough with the always kicking it out. Make the easy play!

I'm guessing from HIS POV he is making the easy play. A true freshman weighing 170 pounds giving it up to upper classmen who have (somewhat) consistently scored seems like the right play.

But this becomes more of his team next year. More weight room, more practice, more reps, more chemistry, more freshman coming in behind him and TH's body SCREAMS 4 year player at this point.

But the point was made elsewhere, PG on offense is a non-position at least as we've seen it. Having 3 or 4 guys who can reasonably handle the ball seems like a positive.

Nixon had some impressive games last year with Colorado State including a 31 point game against Arkansas (who was a 7 seed), 22 points against Florida State (an Elite 8 team), and 27 points/10 rebounds against Nevada (who lost to Loyola-Chicago on a buzzer beater in the Sweet 16).

I won't be surprised to see him starting with Halliburton coming off the bench. I'm going to bet Wiggington won't be playing PG and he'll be starting again. Crazy to not have him start IMO. It'll be interesting to see who starts since ISU seems to have a lot of talented guards...

I really think tis is going to come down to what style of offense we end up with. If we continue to use the guards to setup the offense then we need someone that can create. If we try to get the ball inside to collapse a defense, then having a solid traditional PG is more important.

The ultimate question keeps coming back to how many post players are we going to see on the floor at a time, and are we going to use them.

It has to be Haliburton. Wigginton, Nixon, THT will be great off the ball guards, but this team will be at its best if Tyrese is running the point.

Why do people think this? I think a true point guard can break people down off the dribble. That is not Halliburton's game currently.

Agree, hopefully either Wigg stays and can take care of the ball or somebody else steps up. Halliburton's lack of a quick shot might really hurt him as a true point guarf

I am really high on Nixon based on what he did at CSU and type of player he is. I'd be very excited about a Wiggs, Nixon and Haliburton backcourt. If THT is gone you can go more traditional with MJ, Lard, Solo and Conditt up front. Small sample size but Solo showed really nice jumper improvement.
I will be concerned if Wigs and THT leave. If THT returns given the front court depth I could see playing some 4g and 3Guard lineups.

If your backcourt is TH, Nixon and Lindell I could see all of them with the ball in their hands a lot. I think LW has potential to make a huge jump next year and get into the first round, age be damned.
