Yes, I was just pointing out the difference in efficiency of when the govt receives money vs sends it out.

It is just like doing business with any other company. You have to keep an eye out for those that are slow paying as they may be having troubles. At least you could sue a business but you'll never get tax money back if it gets bad.

Did ours today. We redid our exemptions and planned appropriately last year and greatly reduced our tax returns this year but still getting a small one. I'm in the boat of I'd rather not give the government a large free loan but still don't want to pay in either.

How many exemptions would someone recommend for married filing jointly, one income, two kids? Had another kid last year and didn't change them so got too much back. Was at 3 for state and 6 for fed, the worksheet told me to go to 12 for fed. Seems excessive.

Makes a difference if you make 50k vs 150K. This is important factor in this equation. Also, do you itemize you deductions (even with the new tax law) or do you use standard deduction?

I unfortunately do not make 6 figures and I use standard deduction.

Anyone have a good CPA recommendation for Kansas City? I have historically done my own but my filing is quite a bit more complicated this year so would rather have a professional's help.

Glad I'm not the only one waiting on Iowa to get their crap together.
I filed on 2/11. Got my federal refund in about a week.

I see the same message on the Iowa Where's my Refund.

I submitted on 2/10, looking at the Where's My Refund page just now shows they issued the refund yesterday and it can take 5 days. Gotta go tell the wife and children that we can eat again soon!

Anyone happen to know if anything special has to be done to "declare" Iowa 529 plan contributions made in 2019 (before the April 30 deadline) in order to claim the deduction on 2018 state filing? Can't find anything on that, other than it is allowed.

When you contribute through the website, it will give you and option for 2018 or 2019.

Yes, and charge you for it.

When people work and provide a service for a customer then they should be paid.

W-2’s and standard deduction is a relatively easy thing to fill out. And the charge for completing a simple return is relatively cheap.

Stupid idea thinking the government should calculate everyone’s income tax for them. The government doing those calculations for what you would need to pay also need to be paid. Or did you think that has no cost?

Here is a link for free e-file from IRS.
