Not sure about Prohms kids. Fred made a decision to send his kids to a lesser competitive class.. His choice. Seems kind of weak. What are you afraid of?

Yeah what are you afraid of? Kind of like what some of us say about you when Fred takes a job at Nebraska.

“I couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative for the chance to be the head men’s basketball coach at Iowa State. The support of the school administration has been great and what more can be said about the fan base. Whether we’re playing in Hilton Coliseum, Maui, Kansas City or Tulsa, you can count on amazing support. I have one of the elite college jobs in the nation. My family has really settled in Ames, and we want to be here a long time.

--Steve Prohm

We have our coach, and he appreciates this job more than Fred ever did.

Apparently I now receive promoted Nebraska football tweets on my feed. That’s what I get for following too many ISU beat writers that have tweeted about this.

How many Iowa state beat writers will be at the press conference Tuesday? How many CF staff? How many interviews will local radio have with him? How many Des Moines tv stations will be in Lincoln?

But it’s local news! We want the coverage! We want to know how we should feel about it! Plus fans should be like the local media and know Fred on a personal basis and think he is a great guy and not care about the national persona that a hometown guy having success at his hometown gig was constantly looking to get out only to land at a rival with 0 tourney wins. Really helps the ISU narrative...

Yea, cuz if Bill Self went to the Bulls, got fired and landed a job at Mizzou, nobody would have a thread going on Phog Forums.
Hoiberg going to Nebraska is not even close to the same as if Self went to Mizzou. Missouri/KU is like Iowa/ISU times 2. That rivalry is pure hatred. Self going to Arkansas would be way more similar.

Fred has two massive injuries that happened in two tournaments...Babb and Niang...it’s disingenuous to act like that didn’t happen. It’s possible he would have made the Final Four had either of those not happened. It's possible nothing would have been different, but imagine if someone got hurt now how the excuses would roll out for Prohm. My point is, people act like those injuries never happened. Fact is they did. Niang was one of, if not the best player we ever had here, that team was a buzzsaw the way there were playing. That team was one of the best Cyclone teams ever, right behind the 2000 team.

I don't get why people don't understand how good a couple of those Hoiberg teams were. They had ups and downs but the Big 12 was LOADED. There is a lot of revisionist history about Fred's teams, both good and bad. They had ups and downs like any team, but overall did very well and I do think had he stayed he would have gotten us to the Final Four.

The Chris Babb year, he was one of the best defensive players in the country on a bad defensive team. Chris literally took the best scorer on the other team and held them EVERY TIME to half their average. Losing him was a killer and that bracket was very winnable if they had beaten Ohio State.

Fred checked out mid year the UAB year, it was his fault. He also had a pretty serious heart problem, but he was checked out, no question of that. Still, Fred had the following games in the tournament...UCONN, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Ohio State, NC Central, North Carolina, UCONN and UAB. His teams played great in all but one of those games. 8 games, one stinker. Not bad. Even Duke lost to Lehigh.

For those that hate Fred.....Deandre Kane, Will Clyburn, Tyrus McGee, Royce White, Georges Niang, Naz Long, Monte Morris, Deonte Burton, Abdel Nader...none of those guys are Cyclones without Fred. Steve Prohm would not be here without Fred having success. We have two Sweet 16's that are all on Fred and probably more had the injuries not happened. What Fred did here was remarkable considering where we were at when he came. He handled his departure poorly with the rumors and he stopped recruiting, but he did leave 4 NBA players and another G-league player here. Morris, Nader, Burton and Niang area all on NBA rosters. When has any coach ever left that much for the next guy?

And this defensive nazism everyone has on Fred, he wanted to play fast, and he forced the other team to adapt to that, he made other teams match up with him, if you do that you give up some points. Prohm has the opposite philosophy, he is going to play however the other team wants to play and tries to adapt as best he can in the second half. Fred threw that out the window and just said the hell with it, if you won't matchup with us then we are going to try to outscore you. It's just two different philosophies, one isn't right or wrong.

It makes me sick to see people drag Fred through the mud like he stuck it in Iowa State's a**, it was a great relationship for both Iowa State and Fred. Both benefited immensely. Fred is a wealthy man because of Iowa State and Iowa State has a Top 25 program now because Fred did well here as a coach. It's over now, I wish he would have stayed, but he didn't want to, and I assume he has good reasons for that.

I agree with you about the injuries to key players during Fred's time here, but let's be consistent and acknowledge Naz's injury during Prohm's first season as well. The Prohm haters who regard a Sweet 16 season as being a disappointment never ever remember that rather big injury when they rip him apart. Complete bullsh!t.

The "Hoiberg is Jesus" b.s. has always made our fanbase look pathetic, cheesy, and desperate. It didn't start tonight.

You mean this stuff....

Good for Fred.

I quit caring about him when he left Iowa State. I thought it was handled very poorly considering the opportunity he was given and his lifelong connection to the University & Iowa.

Going to the Bulls told me he was either a moron, a greedy moron, or he didn't want to be in Ames.

So why be upset he left?

He's not going to be able to 'moneyball' transfers as that's in everyone's playbook now.
He wasn't a great HS recruiter...he hates recruiting.
Yea, he's now a former NBA coach...BFD. He took a big paycheck to be the HC of a disastrous, dumpster fire of a franchise, that is lead by a couple of morons. I watch 3 NBA games a year and knew he'd never last 3 seasons there.

He's not staying at NU...he's there till another job opens up. Most likely in the NBA...I do think Fred wants to be in the Midwest...so between not setting the world on fire at the Bulls and his limitations on being in the Midwest he doesn't have many choices right now.

Finally...Fred cheated off my brother in finance classes at Iowa State.
