If ISU fans are happy for him then why exactly would that give the impression of jealousy?

If people are happy for him, how is that jealousy? Seems jealousy usually produces the opposite emotion.

Not to be rude or anything but that seems like a you problem. Why would an impression that ISU fans are happy for Fred indicate jealousy?

From conversations on social media. Now, do I really care about that? Not really, no. The problem I see is that this starts to creep into future recruits' heads. For me, it all boils down to what's best for ISU. A successful Nebraska program that's going to play the same style of basketball and is going to go after (likely) a lot of the same kids, is bad for ISU. The quicker this story fades, the better it is for ISU.

Yeah, if Nebraska starts competing and winning recruiting battles with ISU it would definitely not be good.

And people wonder why this is bad for ISU, when we already have to fight for coverage within our own market.

To many, it’s more important that Fred is successful.

He’s now the coach at Nebraska. Let’s see how everything pans out. But there is no way this is a positive for Iowa State.

It can be a net neutral thing, but there is no way this can be positive for us

It has been interesting talking with some of the Hokfans at work. When there was some initial smoke to this story, they were bringing it up to me - hoping I'd be really upset (I wasn't - it is what it is). Now that this has become a reality, I have tried talking to these same folks about the Hoiberg hire & they don't want to talk about it. My guess is that the reality of the hire has finally sunken in. They remember how Hoiberg basically "owned" the Hoks during his time at ISU & now they will have to deal with him 2x a year in their own conference. They were a couple heroic "last-second" shots from NOT making the Tourney this year & now they will likely be facing an improved kNU squad going forward. If Fred repeats what he did at ISU, that does not bode well for Hok basketball (& I will fully admit that it may negatively impact us, too).

Judging by the reaction from one of the polishers, I’m not far off

Yep. Unfortunately, we're going to have to get used to it.

Jesus ******* Christ, they don’t send Murphy to anything. He doesn’t go to the big 12 or big 10 tournaments. But he goes to the god damned Nebraska press conference.

Really glad I don't live in western Iowa. TV and Omaha World Herald were always trying to brainwash us with "Go Big Red". I can't imagine what the media frenzy with local TV, radio and newspaper is the past couple of weeks. Folks are probably saying that they "stole" Fred from ISU.

Probably need to start a new forum "Neighbor State Rivals".
