I look at this a lot like evaluating high school kids (but with better competition to do so). They may see something in a kid's game that would fit much better in what we do than it does in what they did.
Our staff knows that state. Sampson knows talent, too.
He’s a long 6’7” decent athlete with some shooting guard skills due to being sub-6’2” until his junior year of HS. Get him now before he blows up after taking a year to fill out and refine his game. With the upcoming redshirt, he’ll be only a year “ahead” of current high school recruits, and you know a lot more about his game translating from Troy than you do some high school.
However, we have three openings and need help for next year. It’s tough to hold one back for a guy that was average at Troy, and potentially similar to Lewis (or even Griffin). He’s an instant take if one of those guys leave.
