Looks like you’re right!

I wonder if he plans to drop down to 70kg for the Trials? He should already be qualified for the trials, right? That's a pretty solid group right there. This is 162.8 and Wittlake has wrestled 174 in college. Wonder what will happen next year at 65/74 with him and Joe.

Was looking through FloArena and it looks like Carr isn't registered for the SENIOR level at 70kg and 74kg anymore, so it looks like he's only wrestling the Junior level this weekend.

Corey Cabanban won his first match VSU over Broderick Green 10-0, got four 2 point takedowns and a turn to win it. He'll face Yoseph Yilma in the round of 32.

Charlie Klepps loses 13-1. He went for a fireman's carry early and got caught on his back.

Also possibly of note that Shapiro is wrestling 92kg (202 lbs). Possibly a sign that he will be going 197 for us next year. Kind of assumed that was the plan, but this points to that.

I also wonder whether to read anything into Carr going 74kg (163 lbs). He certainly doesn't look like he's giving anything up to his opponent's size-wise. We'd probably be a better dual team with him at 165 and Straw at 157, but 157 is a much weaker weight nationally and Carr would be right in the AA mix there.

Tonight Shapiro has Woodly from OK who was a NQ at 197 this year and is the #1 seed. Joel will be the underdog, but had a decent chance. Should he win the Semis he'd likely see #2 seed Lucas Davidson who was 9-4 in his redshirt year at Northwestern this year.

Carr has #3 seed DJ Shannon in the Semis. Looks like he was once committed to West Virginia but is spending the year at the OTC and not sure where he's going next year. The fact that he's at the OTC tells me he's a good freestyler and this will be a tough match for David. Should he win, he'll likely wrestle Travis Whittlake who was a top 10 recruit and redshirted at 174 for OKState this year.
