The I-State logo just does not look good on a gold background is the problem.

It looks good on white and black and okay on a red background, but the gold outline on a gold helmet just makes the thing kind of wash out and look like a thin "I" logo.

I thought Parks Library had the original cloth patches that defined our cardinal and gold...?
Because we had a cloth patch of a uniform however degraded and faded it is, as one time period's interpretation of a color and that times limited dye technology, means that is the true color of Cardinal? I mean its just another era's color interpretation, we also used to use true gold, but we now use yellow. So if we want to be true to our colors we need to bring our true gold back.

Or is it more what we want to call our shade of cardinal? Again, who says what is right? I guarantee if you ask most people on the street that don't follow the color arguments on here, what color cardinal is they wont say something similar to burnt maroon. They will say more of a royal bright red shade, like the bird or what the catholic church uses.

But again who is right?

As far as the logo, you just use the Red outline logo on the gold background it looks great. But I love the retro logos too. Basically the opposite of statefan10's avatar.

Main home look should be Gold-Cardinal-Gold. It's still pretty unbelievable ISU does NOT have this option.
...

Imagine this uniform, but with cardinal. It would be glorious.
CyUni 2020 c12y - y r y 12 RedSocksw a01ColCY.png Yes I agree this should be in our Home rotation for sure. Hopefully it will just be a matter of time.

It is still surprising to me how many fans are against the gold pant, jersey or helmet. Kind of weird. It kind of makes sense to me though with some of our past uniforms.

Times have changed though. This uniform set is different, well thought out, simple and classic IMO. And we have a coaching staff that embraces alternating looks. What's not to like. I think there would be something for everyone if we were to add gold. Fans would eventually get one of their favorite looks during the year. Players, I think, love the the different looks, love different gear, etc.

I agree. Take a look at Arizona State’s gold helmet. That thing is awesome in my opinion. We’d have a similar color scheme, so I think it’s a good measure. I actually think our shade of red will look even better.

I do not get why there would be any opposition to gold.

It is just as much of a school color as cardinal and differentiates us from the bevy of red and maroon schools out there. Our gold basketball uniforms...

For me, I hope we get both the gold pants and the gold helmet but I hope we don't use C-C-G as our main home uniforms. It feels like the Paul Rhoads era, and although we had some good moments with him, there were a ton of bad games I saw us play wearing those threads. I'm not superstitious or anything, but I think a "new look-new team" mentality is sort of cool. I also hated being called the "off-brand USC" so it's nice that we've gone away from all of those stupid comments.

I definitely can understand this sentiment.

I realize the C-C-C is probably here to stay as a primary home look, even if I still dislike monochromatic looks and think it looks like a high school sort of aesthetic.

That being said, just having a little variety... C-C-W is no good, C-C-B is maybe slightly better but not really good, so would having C-C-G occasionally be too much to ask?

It is not like the all-cardinal look is *that* new, though...

...so I imagine it will always be with us at this point.

You're just wrong when it comes to this. Monochromatic is the current look in college football and you now see it in the NFL.

If we wore gold pants with our current set of uniforms, we'd look extremely high school. We need stripes and white accents to make that work.

Looking at old uniform combos doesn't really work because we had such low quality unis and the pads and fit were awful by today's standards.

It's cyclical, and I have no doubt we could make some cool C-C-G or G-C-G unis, but just not with the current set. I do like the ASU comparisons, but once again, they have the white accents to break up the red on gold.

I'm down for a gold helmet with a cardinal stencil logo.

Love our gold if done the right way (I know, open to interpretation). And I think we our doing it the right way so far. Last year and this year, maybe, there wasn't much gold in the Home sets. The change was good though. I liked the addition of black, like the all-cardinal (unlike some), like the other combinations so far.

We might be in a period of flux, where more gold in the mix will eventually be a reality.

I'd like a gold option in this shade of gold or another. One thing is sure, with this AD though there will be no change in the current shade of gold. That is OK with me. So why can't we embrace the shade of gold while we have it?

I'm OK talking about our shade of gold though, if you guys want. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't see the point though in terms of any near-term change.

I meant to give you a disagree instead of of dislike, sorry. Both are about the same but I do not like to give out either. Instead I like to be be positive and let people have their opinion. I've had a bunch of dislikes/disgrees in the past. No fun but you learn from it.

It comes to a point where enough is enough though. We are ISU. Our colors are cardinal and gold. Historically both have varied/changed. I've been a Cyclone a long time, very likely longer than you. Maybe if you do not like our colors, go root for another team I don't know. Sorry, I don't really mean that, but... I don't mean to be personal to you SolarGarlic but rather to the many who say similar.

We can argue 'till the sun goes down about the shade of cardinal or gold. It is very subjective. What I don't particularly like is to so quickly slam our current colors and to say they are terrible.

This board is insane. I've gone to ISU football and basketball games my entire life. I graduated from Iowa State. I can say whatever the hell I want about the colors. They're not particularly pleasing to the eye. So what?

give me the current cardinal we have and the gold on this helmet, and I'm good. That's Iowa State to me.

The bottom ones give me nightmares. I'd rock the heck out of the top ones for a game every year.

Were the Rhoads years THAT bad...?

We seemed to like those jerseys when they came out.

I know the last few years, and particularly the very last year with the K-State fiasco, were pretty awful, but that was (relatively speaking) a pretty good era for the program.

That is not saying much about our history, but there really is not much to say.

They certainly were not great. I actually believe we were listed as having some of the worst uniforms in college football by people that were completely unbiased about Iowa State. We've now won a few weekly awards for our uniforms by some uniform accounts and even were in the top 10 for best all-white uniform last year I believe.

AGREE.

If we wore gold pants with our current set of uniforms, we'd look extremely high school. We need stripes and white accents to make that work. Disagree. Stripes and a bunch of white accents would change the current look entirely. I like the simpler current look and think multiple combinations, including gold pant as in c-c-g would look fine. Adding stripes or white accents wouldn't make it any better or worse just different, IMO. I like the simpler look we now have.

My first choice would be the c g worn by Stapleton’s teams. To bad there doesn’t seem to be any good color pictures of those. Second choice would be the colors worn by Bruce’s teams

You go man! I am not necessarily disagreeing with you. Would I also like one of our retro shades of gold? Yes probably/maybe.

Comparing that bottom pic to what we have now is also not the best comparison as this years uniform design is better IMO. And also looks better. Would it look even better with a retro gold? Maybe, maybe not. If I had to say I would likely say yes it would look/be even better with a retro gold.

So we are now talking again about shades of gold and that's OK. I still don't get the point though and get tired of our current shade always getting slammed. That's all. Don't take it personally.

Ok now I need a photoshop expert to show us the current uniforms with old gold instead of yellow.

Internet thumbs up to the winner.

I'd be fine with gold pants again if we only wore them once at home and once on the road. Right now, the monochromatic look is in (all white, all black, all primary color) and I think it looks pretty sharp. I did like how last year we did not wear all cardinal every single home game like we essentially did all 2017. I hope this year we mix it up like we did last year. I also love that top look with the gold helmet and the cyclones decal in cursive. I would say getting a gold helmet would certainly complete our uniforms and allow us to do many things. The thing I desperately would like to see is an actual throwback uniform. I'm talking the whole entire retro uniform with the decal and all, but the quality staying the same. We've done a few in the past but usually since they're for one game, the quality of the uniform is not up to par.

We've got the "150" patches this year, so I'd say it's the perfect year to whip out some cool retro uniforms!
