You guys are nuts if you think Pollard is going to let anyone that’s a Hawkeye be on there. I know it’s not his decision, but he’s been working on gamedays since the Wazzu game. He won’t let it be spoiled by Hawk picker
You are equally nuts if you think JP makes viewing decisions for ESPN.

My guess, the picker has no ties to ISU- hope I am wrong. (unless it is Fran F.)

No hes not. Did you not see JP's email? "We will play morning, afternoon, or night" for Gameday. The guy is a genius. He plays these kind of situations for ultimate exposure for our school. Thank the lord for him.

I don't see the relationship. JP is fine but he is not in a position to select who goes on air. Suggest? Sure, I will totally buy that but no way he MAKES that call. He had to write a letter begging them to come here (smart move). You think the beggar gets to choose who goes on air as well?

No matter, glad they are coming and it will be fun.

My short list of guesses:
Prohm
Monte
Georges
Seneca

Is it common for a current coach of the hosting university to be the guest picker?

Not dogging, just have no idea, since I've been living/working abroad for over a decade & thus, haven't watched CGD in at least as many years.

I like Sage or Seneca. They are both great ambassadors, knowledgeable football guys, and would do well on camera. Obviously they aren't super celebrities, but they don't always have celebrities on gameday.
Deleted for incorrect information about sage and admitted to it in post #277. Seneca still has never lost to TOE.

I vote for Alvin Boone Straight.
Alvin Boone Straight was an American man who became notable for traveling 240 miles on a riding lawn mower from Laurens, Iowa to Blue River, Wisconsin to visit his ailing brother. He inspired the 1999 film The Straight Story.

Maybe a presidential candidate?

This may be my most disliked/dumb post ever!

P.S. I didn't say I like the idea, but it is Iowa Caucus season.

Not common but not unheard of. It was Rick Pitino the last time they were at Louisville.

The most common categories are (1) celebrity alum of the host school and (2) celebrity they could find with no ties to either school. I imagine we will get a (2).
