Anyone know of a good little spot to park north of Campus? I wont be able to get to Ames till around 1 or so due prior commitments. I'll be coming from the north so I was gonna take 13th street and park by the pool/freddy ct area, walk through that little tunnel and sneak down to the stadium. Thoughts?

Park in the Gen staff (yellow) or reserved (red) lots on the east side of campus - by the greenhouses, around Agronomy, Kildee & Forker (Agronomy & Forker lots will probably be full by 1pm).

JM - I'm in a similar boat. Babysitter kind of fell though so we won't get to Ames until noon at the earliest.
Like KC said, I'm looking for yellow/red parking lots on campus. The lots around the greenhouse/power plant are fairly large. Hoping spots will still be available.
Here's the campus parking map:

I also may take the Blue #3 CyRide down to Lincoln Way/Beach. Would save a few blocks of walking at least.

Do they tow cars if they are left in the student lots overnight?

Yes - This definitely happens. My daughter's roommate had her car towed from JTS on a game weekend.

I think he means if you leave your car in the grass student lots overnight after the game. I didn't think they did, but I do not know for sure.

Oh, got it. I don't know either. Sorry for any confusion.

It would still seem to be confusing. If you leave your car overnight in any of the lots AFTER the game, I don't think there would be any issue. If you park in JTS the night before, it will be towed. If you try and park in grass lots over night, I don't know a definitive answer, but assume you are at risk.

I park up in Vet Med and leave on Sunday and there are usually 10-20 vehicles left in the student lot from the night before. I am guessing it isn't a problem.

Weather forecast update: not great, Bob

It looks like the rain this morning isn't very heavy and shouldn't affect anything for the weekend.

Tomorrow is the only remaining question mark. Will storms move through quickly? Right now the answer seems to be yes, and rainfall amounts are still expected to be 0.5" or less.

My understanding is they start towing after midnight if student cars are left in the stadium lots.

We tailgate on the east end of an RV lot. It is pretty wild to see a couple dozen tow trucks come rolling down University Blvd late on Friday night. It feels like an immigration raid.

It figures, has barely rained in Ames for like 2 months plus and then Iowa game week gets here and here it comes.

Not exactly sure.
Al_4_State is right. I think it was two years ago I parked in G7 for an OOC game. Mud was flying up on top of the car roof as we drove out. There were ruts in the lot the rest of the year. There's no way they're closing the grass lots unless there is significant standing water in them. My concern? Two years ago, we arrived at G7 at least two hours before kickoff for the Iowa game, and it was full -- somehow, a bunch of cars were let in that shouldn't have been.

Before you say, "Show up earlier, stupid!", I am coming from the Chicago area, so that's not a trivial matter. I'm wondering what it will be like after 11 am, when Gameday is over. I can't get there before it starts.

My concern I have. Daughter has a VB tourney that morning so there will be no early arrival for us. I make sure to have 4WD if any doubt in G7.

Maybe a few tenths of an inch this morning? And the complex of thunderstorms is weakening this morning as it moves east.

My gauge has had over 2 inches thus far. Raining pretty hard right now and more expected Thursday.

And is that enough to close the lots? I have a hard time believing 3 inches is enough to cause huge problem.

Yeah, it's a good sign that Ames missed a majority of the storms coming through last night/today. Out in Western Iowa, we've had 2-4" since midnight.
