You must really despise the goodwill this fundraising for the hospital created....

Nah.

What he said as a 16 year old probably wasn't newsworthy. And it is unfortunate that it became so.

But the people using it as an excuse to go full rage about 'cancel culture', which has become a euphemism for simple accountability for things people said even as adults, are pretty ******* dumb themselves. Say something dumb as a 16 year old, yeah we should probably look past that from a 22 year old. Say something ****** at 35 and you're old enough to be given adult responsibility for your own adult words.

Not sure your point here? Somehow letting your money talk is a bad thing now?

They have been radio silent since issuing their statement at 10:48pm on FB and are just getting killed on social media and by other news outlets today. Eventually you think they will break their silence and try to do some more damage control right? If their next move is they just move on like this never happened and don't issue a better apology and lay out a plan that something like this will not happen again the backlash will only get worse.

They'll never release numbers of how many subscriptions and advertisers they lost on this but it surely will be very significant.

Honestly, I don't know what their best strategy would be by now. Is an apology and a pound of flesh in the form of a couple firings going to stop the bleeding or will it just give the story legs for another news cycle?

It's impossible to know for sure since we don't know what's going on with their subscription count, but maybe they think that any subscriber who is going to cancel over this has already done so and that addressing the story any further is just throwing gas on the fire.

I'm really curious to see what their next move is.

The register didn’t do anything wrong and the guy handled it perfectly. Only thing wrong that happened was Busch pulling support and people’s over the top reactions. Way bigger things going on in this world to actually be outraged by.
Somebody works for the DMR....

Spare me the crying game. They dug for skeletons and people dug back. Don’t throw out hit jobs and not expect for people to swing back.

That would at least be a start and some form of consequence for the people who made this decision that is going to cost their company a lot of financial loss.

I don't know what the best strategy is but keeping quiet and hoping this blows over isn't a good one.

We’re spending time and resources on finding out if someone said something dumb (no matter what age)? There are many things in need of thorough investigation and bringing to public attention. Dumb comments aren’t that, but perhaps comments made as part of promoting some ideological platform. Don’t be a snowflake.

Don’t confuse accountability with trying to profit off sensationalism because it’s cheap and easy. The DMR trying to profit off cancel culture is the only thing that needs to be held accountable.

The register didn't do anything legally wrong... they just chose to stir up a controversial piece of information on a subject that 99% of the public was aligned on and was completely unneccessary to the article. Oh, and the whole sense to not check your own tweets before sending the story out which will ruin some kids career. I'm glad the state has used this as an opportunity to support the kind instead of ruin him, as it would have in so many similar circles.

Maybe it's time for us to clean up our image, mind and souls.

Leave the firewater behind. Open a Bible. Be submissive and humble in the face of this wild world....

**** that....I nominate Pabst Blue goddam Ribbon as the new unofficial official beer for the land between two rivers

I didn’t think anything was stirred up and actually thought that part of the article was good and just made the guy look better because of his response.

The real snowflakes are people like you that freak out when people get held to accountability for their own words. (And no, I dont include Carson in this because he wasnt an adult)

It's pretty telling some of the people freaking out the most about this, given some of their posts elsewhere on this board
