If they actually plan on placing the logo on the hills, an artificial surface would likely be a requirement, otherwise it will be gone after the first game.
Plus the amount of complaints from people about their clothes getting the paint on them.

I still dont get the love for the hills. Everyone says its about the kids playing catch there. But there is about 6 actual kids that do that and you are playing catch on a 30 degree hill full of people with about 15 feet of room. Seems like a dumb reason to keep them. Saying we cant ever get rid of them.
I sat right next to them last weekend and that is what there was. Any more attendance and the hills start to fill up and there is even less room to "throw the football."
Saying we arent ready do bowl in the NEZ is one thing but saying we cant get rid of those hills is another.
I think most people and kids would rather have some form of kid zone, with extra features and access to special concessions, game zone, Cy, spirit squad, players, and more. Building the NEZ with a interactive kids zone could be huge. Plus with the the new plaza there could be added perks for kids in that area too.
Those muddy hills could and should be nothing but a distant memory, they definitely shouldn't be a sticking point to any upgrades to the stadium.

Sorry, have to disagree with you here.

We really don't need the extra seating at this point, and I definitely do not want to see inflatables or something like that in the endzones for the kids to play on.

Some people just like the hillsides so they can sit with their kids and the kids can get up and move around and burn some extra energy, etc. Just leave it be IMO.

I think putting a "wall" there and filling in the hillsides more will help make the view from there a lot better though, and also will give the north end more of a closed in look and feeling, so I'm all for what these plans look like.

I again didnt say right now, I said people keep saying that we cant EVER get rid of them, we have to keep them because its the only way we can have kids grow up to be fans. I say that is just ridiculous.
Saying we dont need seating is debatable too, a couple years its going to be an issue. We have a waiting list for club zones. We are basically maxed out on season tickets. We are maxed out and sold out of student section. Some of these if we could expand them we would but until we expand the stadium we cant. Several games would be sold out if we increased the student tix by say 5k, but we are locked in there now. Are we selling out every game right now no, but we are out of room in some areas. And 2-3 sellouts a year is also a loss of money considering we could sell more. You don't size a venue for your smallest crowd you size it for your largest.
And having inflatables in the endzone, no one ever said that. Im talking about something under and behind the stands or in another area that is special for cy kids, plus a special seating area for them, with special vendors geared towards kids in that area, plus some other things for them in the concourse area. Etc. Im not a designer but there is a Ton of things that can be done, and there are other stadiums that have done it.

JP likes that the hillsides are a unique feature that provides an added family atmosphere for "ground floor" Cyclone fans at JTS, so they are probably here to stay for the time being. But it is obvious from these renderings that a conversion to regular seating should be pretty easy to do when the time comes. There is so much great facilities things happening right now I can't complain about the hillsides.

I agree with that, there are some huge things going on. And I am really excited and happy with all of it.
I just don't understand the love for those hills. Sitting right next to them last week really solidified my feelings. They really are nothing special.
Between people constantly jumping the wall back and forth in and out of the stadium to the mud and water running down along the hill to the only handful of actual kids playing. Did have that nice smell of mud though. Just think we could do something so much better to get kids actually excited about the games and the Cyclones.

I think what they are doing is nice and gives them a better look, and all the plans and upgrades is awesome. But the idea that the hills are something special is overplayed.

Most of the kids are barely watching the game. But that's not the point. The point is to make it fun for them as kids so they are more willing to attend when they are older. It's an easy way to make more fans. Stuffing a 3-8yo in a seat for 3+ hours is a great way to make them never want to come.

Iowa State doesn't need to more seating, they need more winning and ticket scarcity. ISU has some of the cheapest season tickets in the conference. As Campbell continues to win, team popularity and desire to attend will increase along with ticket prices, which if you happened to watch Pollard's 20/20 Vision piece, shows that revenue from ticket sales has plateaued.

So you don't think anyone can come up with some other idea for kids than a frickin' muddy hill? To keep them interested for a couple hours? You think other schools haven't had success doing this?

Revenue from ticket sales has plateaued, he was saying because we are maxed out on numbers, which means without adding on to the stadium we cant increase that. So to increase income we must raise donations. Therefore he was saying he must figure out how to give people more for their money.

Ticket scarcity is one thing, but it will still only increase the value of tickets as far as the University is concerned a small amount. Selling more tickets and more donors and more at Higher levels means much more. Ticket scarcity really only increases secondary market value which does nothing for the University. Therefore being able to sell more, (capacity) means way more than scarcity in terms of the University. Especially when you add more High value seats.
