Considering our poor/inconsistent shooting do they or would they ever practice in Hilton to get more comfortable with the lighting/depth etc?

As down as I am on this team, I do think they figure this out as Prohms teams seem to struggle early . That said, I think we'll be a bubble team and somewhere from an 8-12 seed

I would like the (as of now) 42 people who voted yes to be drug tested immediately, tell me what they're on and provide me with their dealer's number because they're on some good stuff.
I voted yes out of optimism. I think we win the next two games to get us to 8-4. I think we win 8-9 games in conference play to put us at 16-17 wins, and I think we win one game down in KC to put us to 17-18 wins. That would probably get us in.

1.)Big 12 is down
2.)Haliburton and Conditt/Jacobson/Young. We may not have a 4, but have a great pg and three quality 5s.
3.) Between that, we have an athletic guard that can get in the paint and another guard that can defend at a high level.

Although we don’t have a talent buffer or a lineup we can just play until foul trouble forces us to change, we have the pieces to win. It’ll take a good job out of the staff, but that’s what we pay him to do.

You bastard! I already posted this vid in another thread!
:D

In the other thread I posted that I thought NIT was gonna be a challenge. Gonna be 8-5 non-con (I am assuming @Auburn is a loss). So need to be 8-10 in conference to make NIT. I'd put us at 50/50 to do that right now. To make the NCAA, I just don't see it, they will have to be 10-8 to be on the bubble at 18-13 overall.

Right now, I am expecting 6 or 7 wins in conference...

Not without a more consistent defensive effort, better shot selection, and more made shots.

I'm not too optimistic right now but I'm wary of writing pretty much any team off in December despite a lackluster non-con record.

As much as I want ISU to go dancing, I do not think it is likely this year. This team lacks shooting and defense. It is possible for teams to go far when lacking one but not both. Things also become harder when you lack an efficient isolation scorer. As good as Haliburton is, he has not shown the ability to be a high level iso scorer. I would love to be wrong but things are not looking bright at the moment.

If I’m answering only based on what I’ve seen from Iowa State I say absolutely no chance.

If we win at Auburn and I take a minute to look at the Big 12, I would say there’s a small chance.

I really feel as if the Big 12 has a ton of beatable teams. That’s the only thing that’s making me not completely give up on the NCAA tournament at this point.

Sweep TCU and KSU, and find a way to only get swept by 1 school while splitting with the other 6 schools (KU or BU), and you’re in. That would give you a conference record of 10-8 and 19-12 overall.

More realistically though, I see us losing at Auburn and winning like 6-8 conference games.

This is exactly where I'm at. 19 wins is the target and really need one of those to be Auburn unless we can get two out of 4 from KU, BU and sweep a team or two.

I'm an optimist and think things will start to click for us in Big 12 play so I voted yes.

I can answer this question a lot better in 2 weeks, but this my thoughts: These guys are pretty good at forcing TOs when they are focused and that is what they need to do to get their offense going, easy buckets. TH and Bolton are decent at finishing and George can be effective in the post.

My other thought is, man, somehow, someway the shooting has to get better. Look at everyone on the roster that you would expect to shoot a 3, guards and small forwards. They are almost all shooting 3's 10-15% worse than they shot last year. Grill and Jackson were good shots last year and now they are struggling. Maybe it is just the pressure of everyone else missing shots. Hopefully this long break from playing is going to pay dividends in terms of offensive play.

Agree. And if CSP can get Nixon and Bolton to focus on these two individual strengths instead of thinking they should shoot Steph Curry long balls, we will be heading in the right direction.

At this point I would say NIT at best. I think we have good talent, but they look awful right now. Gotta see more movement without the ball and slashing at the lane with tough offensive boards if this team wants to get wins.

The thing about previous years under Prohm though is that you knew they had the talent to be pretty good, but they just weren't clicking yet. I just don't see that level of talent on this year's team.

Last year we had Babb, Wiggs, THT, Shayok, etc that you knew had a LOT of talent and it would only be a matter of time before it all came together.

Obviously the talent is less this year. However, we have a likely lottery pick at PG, and Conditt has shown to be a very good big. One criticism I have about Prohm is that he takes too long to adjust; I think we'll see Conditt in the starting lineup sooner rather than later, though it should have already been done.

Bolton is good as well, he just needs to be more consistent with the 3. Nixon is a great defender, but needs to defer more on offense.

This team has only been playing together for 10 games, and the schedule has been pretty tough so far. I don't blame anyone for thinking we will miss the tournament, but I'm not going to give up on them yet.

If you think Nixon and Bolton are taking the shots they are taking because they think that, you’re not watching the games close enough. Most times, they are shooting late in the shot clock. Our offense, the approach, is straight garbage.
