Baylor was the only unranked one at the time.

I forgot about the Baylor game.

Wow. At this point, I'm amazed that we beat Baylor at home (or anywhere), even an unranked Baylor team.

Here's how I'd assign responsibility in becoming a good shooter:
-95% player
-4% manager/trainer that comes in and rebounds and helps the player
-1% coaching staff

That seems a bit extreme, I think you are focused on the effort and "want to". I think coaches can have a bigger impact helping guide that effort into the right areas to work on, specific drills, etc.

Or maybe what I am saying is a good coach can be a multiplier of the results of the players effort. E.g. a good coach can turn X amount of player effort into 2X of improvement, where a lousy coach its just X gives you X. And by coach, I mean coaching staff - head coach, assistants, managers, etc.

Wigginton went the **** off.

5/10 from three, 9/12 from the line, 3 A and only 1 TO! Good Wiggi!

Like I said -- those five starters could be very good.

But when your bench immediately goes to a hobbled Hans Brase and the legendary Jeff Beverly, and those guys at the top are forced to play 35+ minutes, they wore down physically during games and eventually broke down during the season.

He is a Center only because he is tall. He shoots more 3's in High School than shoots in the paint. He is a stretch 4 with not much of an inside game. He is not the answer for rebounding and toughness. He may be an answer for a three point shooter though.

Good deal - the 4 position is a huge weakness on the current team.

NWB's 15/10/7 with 1 TO isn't bad either.

Thinking about 2017-2018, it never seemed like Lard and Solo playing together bogged down the offense like the 2 big offense does this year.

Well we haven't seen one lineup with Solo and Conditt together.

How nice would it be to have Jeff Beverly and his mid-range jumper this season?

I'm totally serious about that; I know some posters on here (and I'm not suggesting you are one) love to rip on him for whatever mean-spirited reasons they have, but I really thought he was a nice complimentary player for that one season.

He became emblematic of the problems that season even if they were fall from his fault alone. He could be okay in 10-15 minute bursts.

He was just not a Big 12 starter or a long-range shooter, which Prohm tried to make him one and style him as one, with predictably deplorable results.

We could use *anybody* who makes shots this year, so if we had Jeff and he was making 16' shots instead of Jackson bricking threes, I am all for it.

He was just the new guy and did hilarious stuff like this --

...so it makes a funny meme.

Lard's production went to crap after Solo was injured.

That man did win us the UNI game that year.

I think the Babb/Jackson/Wigginton back court combo was much better than our current back court, as a whole. Offensive spacing existed that season, which made Solo/Lard more effective (also what made Jacobson more effective last year).

Having a knock down shooter on this team and a productive small ball 4 / wing player would help this team immensely. I'm not saying we'd be great, but we'd be above average to good.

The hope is Foster and Blackwell are "big" and "small" versions of what you describe.

By fouling out in 21 minutes?

:D

He was 2/2 from three, though.
Beverley hit a 3 in probably the most critical part of the game. IIRC, UNI made a little run and Jeff hit a 3 that pushed our lead from either 2 to 5 or 3-6. Either way it was a ginormous shot for him.

Agreed. Adding a Donovan Jackson type player to this team would be a tremendous help. You'd essentially have 3 starting PG's (Haliburton/Bolton/D. Jackson) with a knockdown shooter in Jackson. Doesn't eliminate all deficiencies, but at least changes the trajectory of the season.
