It’s there if Jamie wants to pull the trigger. The problem is who do you go and get. The next hire is pivotal as they will be walking into a tough situation talent wise. If we are being honest there are exactly two players on the roster that should be in a Big 12 rotation (usually 8). They are 2-3 players that might grow into that but at this point you will need 3 starters and another rotational player out of the incoming class and whoever they pick up in the transfer market.

It is laughable that people argued that Prohm was a better coach than CFH. The excuses for the record in games decided by six points or less, the excuses for the unrivaled amount of double digit losses in the last three years, the excuses for the blow out losses at home. You just have to look at the program and say burn it down. The next coach will need at least 2-3 years to even field a NIT squad. This thing has become so unraveled when you look at where we were five years ago. It is amazing how far this program has fallen.

Well at least you’re finally being truthful about your opinion.

It's crazy how varied opinions of Prohm are. I have no idea what will happen, or should happen, but I didn't think this game was a surprise. Especially considering Bolton couldn't go.
Says a lot about a program when basically a 20 pt loss (I know it was 16 due to some garbage time points against what I'm sure we're walk-ons) to a 9 win team isn't a surprise. KSU is garbage and they whooped our ****.

what counterarguments are you looking for?

we have been through this already, and even though you don’t want to step outside your own little bubbles on here, the perception of Steve Prohm is much different nationally than he is with the handful of anonymous posters on cyclone fanatic.

Do you honestly think if certain boosters wanted him gone, he wouldn’t be?

people that matter still like him, and have understanding of what really happens inside the programs. When that stops they will write him a check to no longer be the heads men basketball coach at Iowa State.

and it’s especially cute that the crewe piles on today when Rasir was out.

247Sports seems to disagree at least. And note this came out in May last year after winning the Big 12 tourney. I suspect Mike Boynton moves ahead of his this year.

you just quoted the Texas tech 247 guy as national perception.

for **** sakes there’s enough to legitimately criticize, why do you guys insist on making **** up.

goes back again to the idea it’s always been about more than basketball

I think your the guy that told me Prohm was a better coach for this program than CFH. You think this thing has the potential to be a NCAA tournament squad next year?

ahh selective reading again. I said prohm would be better because he actually likes the job and Ames.

so if he were to succeed, we wouldn’t have to worry about him looking for the first ticket out like Fred did.

Hate to break it to you, but I think we are the garbage team this year. Full strength as the team was I think its 8th best, as it is obviously 10th.

I actually do think they could make it. A lot of positive needs to happen but I don't think it's a complete disaster. Today, yes that was a disaster but it was just one of those days.

Hope you are right. Because JP isn’t going to fire him after extending him last year. Another 8th-10th place finish next year and we won’t even be considered a Top 50 job anymore.

Come on, are you seriously trying to say the quality of the job has been diminished?

ffs the quality of the job is based on the structural factors that exist within it.

Johnny and the majority of the fanbase made it a top 30-35 job 30 years ago. Other than the false self importance of the small loud internet minority, none of the important factors have changed, despite any successes or failures or a given coach.

Is this going to be the new false talking point to go along with how incredible the talent was on his first team?

Knowing how Jamie Pollard operates the athletic dept, I am still predicting two more miserable prohmyears...and I really hope that things get better next year......But I wouldn't hold my breath.....

was your disagreement trying to say Johnny didn’t make it a good job? You were around for that. You know better.

and none of that has structurally changed.

No I'm not saying that at all ...What I am saying is that right now it may not be a 30-35 job ...because no matter who you hire it will take 2/3 years to rebuild this mess....Of course it was a great job and will be again.....With the right coach...

This is spot on. Our program has fallen so far under Prohm - clearly a change is needed. I hope Pollard gets on it instead of kicking the can down the road. We need to make a strong hire and start moving forward.

And yeah I agree. Any fan who thinks CSP is even close to as good of a coach as CFH either knows nothing about basketball or needs their head checked. Most likely both.

But none of the things that made it a top echelon job have really changed.

bad seasons bad tenures happen to almost every school but the bluebloods.

Any coach that looks at Iowa State sees what exists here. That’s what is meant by the job is still a coveted one.

Jesus Larry almost destroyed the program, Probably other than Sam Mack, that was the lowest point ever.

But that didn’t make perception of the job any less nationally.
