Yes, you need 4 year guys to be good at Iowa State but it wasn’t going to happen with Grill. Everyone wanted him to be a Thomas/Morris/Naz/Niang level 4 year guy and he just doesn’t have the ceiling those guys did. At best, Caleb would have been a 5/7PPG guy while coming off the bench.

Which sort of says something about this staff's eye for talent when in the last class within a year we had 3/4 transfer for not being big 12 caliber.

They've landed some solid ones too in other classes, obviously, but this lack of middle ground between early departures for the pros and players that arent good enough to be in the program is killer.

I wanted to laugh at this but Im also thinking that nobody wants to play for this coach....I sure as heck dont want to see him in Ames anymore after his performance last few years. This is going to continue to be a dumpster fire.

The issue isn’t Caleb Grill or Zion Griffin transferring and losing what they bring to the program. The issue is that Prohm keeps landing players that aren’t good enough to succeed at ISU and that there seems to be a disconnect between the players and the staff. So even if you start landing players that are good enough, are we confident enough that this staff will be able to keep those guys here for more than a 1/2 years?

This is exactly right. It's just been feast or famine. The guys that have been good have been NBA good. And that's a wonderful thing. But everyone else has been very, very not good. There just doesn't seem to be any in-between short of maybe Babb, Solo and Bolton.

The sucky reality is because of COVID-19 the chances of many, if any, schools getting rid of coaches are basically zero. So we are stuck with Prohm for a year IMO so people should just accept that. As ****** as it might be.

Don't get me wrong. The tone isn't bad for either. People are generally very supportive of guys who either decide to leave, or are told to leave. But, the level of disappointment/anger in this thread compared to the Griffin thread is pretty obviously different.

Griffin has had 2 years and has shown zero promise. Grill only had one injury plagued year and showed something. That's the difference. The thread would be exactly the same if it were Jackson.

Who isn't accepting it? We haven't even had a burning tickets thread yet.

He was probably staying anyway.

The part that sucks is that next year when we most likely firing him the competition will be even more as there will be a ton of firings next year.

Someone needs to tell Stevie boy that you don’t build a program by having two players who played a lot transfer at the end of the year and have two guys you gave scholarships to not even make it to the start of the season. How can anyone think he can run this program?

I'm a bit surprised people are so surprised. We went 12-20 and 90% of the fanbase wants prohm gone. You don't have to be an insider to know there's going to be a lot of changes.

spring recruits are always dicey. always.

grill went from 3 sport state stud to trying to compete in the b12 - that's a major, major jump. who wouldn't want a change of scenery after a season like this?

Serious question though, who the hell saw this coming? Grill was one of Prohm's chosen ones from the jump off this season. I guess more info will likely come out, but the only explanation that makes sense right now would be Prohm himself is taking visits elsewhere.

No one saw this one. Dude is (was?) a die-hard Cyclones fan... Something really has to give for someone to leave their favorite school.

I think people are surprised because Grill looked to be bought in. Maybe he was and he's leaving because of a different reason. We'll likely never know. Regardless though this doesn't look good on Prohm. Nothing about this season has.

The only thing I can see is Prohm is zoned in on getting guys to fill spots that both Zion and Grill are going to play. The 3 and the 4 position. Grill is more of a tweener of the 2/3 position, but there were obviously flaws in his game and maybe he looked at what was coming in and who Prohm is trying to go out and get and thought it was going to be very tough to get playing time next year.
