Agree. It's more a personal feeling of what you are comfortable with. My wife and I are still working full time (from home) and don't expect any decrease in income in the near future. There is zero reason for us to get a stimulus.
I thought part of the reason, altruistically if not financially, is to help the economy. Use the money to pay for something or buy something you wouldn't ordinarily. Help the local (or other) economy with your money. I know of some people who are contemplating using their stimulus $ for people/services they don't currently have the opportunity to. Hair salons, barbers, bar and restaurant workers, charitable groups, etc. Of course one needs to get the stimulus to actually spend it.

Its a stimulus for the economy. If you lose your job there are unemployment programs to help with that. This is just general relief and to get some money pumped in to the economy. If you don't want it donate it to a local business. Get take out or delivery from your local restaurant and give them a $1200 tip.

Great ideas. I'd add why not donate to Cyclone Club or Gridiron Club or something ISU related...

Exactly. Try to help a smalll business. I am gonna have a local business install a new garage door for me. Maybe not spend it on Amazon .....They probably want this to last forever.

Nearby
got ours this morning

checking to see if my daughter gets one. whelp she doesn't which is ******* stupid. A 23 year old non-student who files a tax return but isn't eligible because we claimed her as an other dependent.

The thing is reading the actual bill that passed she should get it.

Also, if you have a high school/college student kid over 16 that you claim as a dependent but they still filed a tax return - you will not get anything for them and they won't get anything for themselves. Dumb!
Your daughter needs to find a better accountant....

Huh, I didn't know that. I can't imagine the government can actually force you to take it, tough. I mean, how does that work? Do they have a direct line to everyone's bank account to directly deposit it? Never thought I'd see the day where a government would force you to take money. Guess I'll find a way to donate it somewhere.
I guess you don't need stimulus money to purchase a high horse.

We're in a similar boat and planning to donate at least part of it. Food banks are in high need right now if you are looking for options.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion:

You shouldn't take the stimulus if you don't need it. That applies for businesses too.

I disagreed because I learned along time ago that if you are offered money you take it.

My mom offers me money to help pay for Thanksgiving Dinner that we are hosting I take it.
If a client wants to give me a tip for tax services I take it.
The the government wants to offer me a forgivable loan I take it.
The government wants to advance me a tax credit I take it.

Like I told my clients the government put this stuff in place so you need to look out for yourself and go get you some.

Always look out for number 1 (aka yourself). Always.

Do I need it to make ends meat? Not at all.
Do I need it to buy something I want (new gaming PC)? Sure do.
Half goes to savings/half to buy the pc. I see nothing wrong with this.
