Downing was ok last year and could end up being good. We'll see. Newell has been ok also, but not great.
Downing was HM All Conference last year and a freshman All American. He was better than OK

Sorry for getting this thread back on track
Agree. That kind of quickness and acceleration is just uncanny and it seems like he has great hands too. Yikes! That's pretty incredible.
I see that you weren’t honest enough to answer the question. Integrity matters. Why did you point out 2018, could it be because that was the only class ISU signed at least 2 of the top 5? How about the other years, that would 2 more out of the other 5 years. So out of those other 5 years, we signed 2 out of the top 25 rated kids in the state.
The 2019 kids, its hard to tell, we signed 0/5 of the highest ranked kids, 2020 ISU signed #2, 6, 7 & 10. Iowa #1, 4, 5, 8. Which group would you rather have?
Class of 2021, ISU has a commitment from #12, 17, 19 and are in on # 14. Iowa from the same class, #,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10.
That’s not what you said, though. What you said is that when a kid grows up being a huge fan, going to games with their Dad, etc—all of which applies to Blaise Gunnerson as a kid—that other teams don’t have any chance.Nebraska told him he can play 3-4 OLB for them like TJ Watt for Wisconsin and Pittsburgh. He wanted that. We couldn't offer that.
That's exactly what Jim Walden and his staff did. Loser mentality. This staff knows when they have a chance and when they don't. I would rather see them cut their losses with a kid they don't feel they have a shot with and shift focus elsewhere. They aren't going to try to flip a kid that will be a long shot. Its just not worth the time or resources.

And since you clearly couldn’t figure It out for yourself, I’ll answer your question. The only reason I picked the 2018 Class is because as I worked backwards, it was the first one that all of the players involved had had a chance to come off a redshirt and play.
For that matter, from the opposite direction it was the first class that CMC had had a chance to fully involve himself with after being hired and getting established. Recruiting is really at least a two year process, after all.
I gave you a chance, so now I’ll answer myself. Trevor Downing is at least equal to Tyler Linderbaum. Unsurprisingly, Zach Petersen > Waggoner. Matter of fact, thus far he’s been better than Waggoner and Doyle put together.
ipso facto, thus far ISU had the better Instate recruiting class.
The reason I asked the question is to show just how irrelevant the subjective recruiting rankings you solely base your arguments on are.
I’ll be polite, and wish you luck grasping that point. It would probably be best for everyone.
Looks like we're recruiting them all very hard even though a couple of them are projected as sure bets to go elsewhere. There are some more Iowa Kids I want in the 2020 Class and I hope we get most of them but you can't build a Top 3 Class in the Big 12 with to many Iowa Kids. With that said here is list of the Iowa HS Kids I still want.

all you can do is reach out. If the kid tells you he’s not interested, there’s nothing more you can do at that point.
the absolute last thing that I would accept from Campbell is to go all McCarney and sign Iowa kids because they’re Iowa kids. For every Sage and JJ, there were 10 guys that should have been playing at uni.
No one is saying signing Iowa kids just because they are from Iowa, what I am saying is signing the top kids in the state. The two are completely different issues, but many want to lump them together.
For years Iowa fans liked to point out that ISU under Mac, pointed to the Cy-Hawk game as the most important on the schedule. A lot of our fans, downplayed that idea, when we were winning the game.
Now since we are on a 5 game losing streak, to me it does become important, as important as a conference game, no way, but its still an important early test for the team. And I hope that the staff realizes that, just like with instate recruiting. To be the best you have to sign the best players in state, unless you are a national team like ND or Oregon.
We're 8 months from the early signing period and some posters think players wont be getting more offers for some reason. He got an offer from TCU, so maybe the amateur scouts on here can quit ******** about lack of P5 offers
