Another top 5... top competition once again.

A 6-foot-5 sophomore that can play a litany of spots along the perimeter, Perez quickly became a priority target after entering the portal last month. However, he has decided to narrow things to a select group of five that consists of Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa State, Marquette and Memphis.

Perez would be slated to sit out next season due to transfer restrictions, that is unless the one-time transfer rule is passed. If not, Perez could ask for a waiver to play immediately depending upon the college that he chooses. There is no timetable for his commitment.

Why would choosing a specific college have an impact on him getting a waiver?

I don't know the situations of the other schools, but some may view him as a sit out while we need help immediately.

Why are they targeting guys who have to sit out next year? One is enough, unless Prohm is ok with tanking for the 3rd time in 4 years.

We are also targeting guys who can play next season. 2 players at the top of their board Jalen Coleman-Lands, and Ray Salnave are both Grad Transfers. But you would think if they get those 2 it would be nice to have 2 guys ready to go to replace them correct?

Get the best talent possible and go from there

I would agree if I thought the transfer rule was gonna pass but it’s not at this point. Need guys who we KNOW are going to play next year. Prohm can’t afford to have another 15 win season. If you think the negative recruiting is bad now, just wait until next offseason when he’s coming off another losing year.

I think they go into 3 groups.

1. grad transfers that can start regardless of what the NCAA rules regarding the waiver or who we sign. Need two. This would give us 3 seniors w/ SY which simplifies fall recruiting a bit.

2. Sit out transfers, we can afford to spend 2 of the 4 here.

3. Grad transfers that fill a need but maybe aren't a difference maker. These are the guys that get slow played.

But if recruiting will he even harder next off season, it would mean we need to sign guys for 2021-22 now- sitouts or multiple year guys. The more sitouts we take, the more likely next year is rough, and the more these sitouts are needed to offset what will likely be impossible recruiting
.
The class of 2021 is going to be tough anyways, likely abysmal. High school kids are already leery and COVID19 will make it speed dating recruiting which hurts Prohm

I think Prohm needs to show something next year, but the time for him to add to 2021-22 is now imo. At least two Sitouts would be good. Ideally we get someone like Brown as a GT, Harris gets exemption, and we add two sitouts like Perez and Walker

They definitely need help next year. But, taken to extremes, would you rather take one year of immediately-eligible instead of sit-out plus 2 years of Chris Babb? I don’t know if they think they can get a waiver here, but I appreciate the staff taking the strategic long view, even if they may not be the ones to reap the benefits.

Only other team remaining on both of their lists is Illinois. Do they have two openings?
from what I can tell they have one scholarship open with possibly two more depending on whether Ayo Dosunmu or Kofi Cockburn decide you stay in the draft or not
