Well Pollard's latest tweet sheds light on everything
Relevant details:

Athletics
  • All returning student athletes are being tested for COVID-19.
  • Any student athlete testing positive for COVID-19 is isolated from all team activities and community members.
  • Athletes and athletic teams are returning to campus to begin training on a staggered basis through the months of June, July, and August in order to avoid a large influx of student-athletes all returning at one time. The only athletic team that is returning to campus prior to July 6th is the football team.
  • All student athletes and staff are required to wear face coverings when possible given the demands of the particular activity they are participating in. A more detailed summary about the Athletics Department student athlete mitigation strategies can be found here.
  • As guided by the Governor, the CDC, Iowa Department of Public Health and other state and federal health experts, the current plan is for a 50% capacity limit for events at Jack Trice Stadium, including football. Additional mitigation strategies will be used to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread such as physical distancing, face coverings, electronic ticketing, and crowd management designed to reduce fan congestion and contact. More information regarding football at Jack Trice Stadium can be found here.
  • More information about COVID-19 mitigation strategies at Jack Trice Stadium, Hilton Coliseum and other athletic venues will be distributed prior to the opening of any venue to the public for a sporting event.

Well there we have it. I'll be searching for some cool ISU face masks!

And the dreaded hand dryers. I can't believe that those aerosol machines are not shut down by the CDC/BOH.

And the dreaded towel dispenser with the round little dial on the side, which requires you to put a wet finger into that wet dial to get your towel

Use your unwashed finger to get the towel started before you wash your hands.

As I’ve been saying, what Iowa’s stats are don’t really matter when it comes to playing games. Look at Texas and Oklahoma.

Lubbock and Austin are both hot spots right now so it will definitely be worth watching what happens at UT and TTU.

My wife can make them if you supply the fabric! If you pay for shipping we'd be happy to help out (or even share plans if you have the means to assemble).
Well that is awesome! I'll write your name down so I don't forget, and start looking at possible fabric options! Thank you!

That is very nice of you! Right now we have masks made by two different people, and wow are they different in size and coverage! For adult sizes, I wouldn't expect that, especially because some we bought from a store that sews and does alterations. Still waiting on some ordered through Cy's Locker Room many weeks ago.... Anyway, I'd love to have the pattern/measurements that you/your wife use if that's an option. I think I could do ours in a more consistent and better-fitting manner, AND not have to wait for weeks, and then weeks more, and am still waiting. Thanks! I could DM email address.

We ordered one large adult and one small adult, because we thought his beard might create problems with fit. The "small" adult is a little too small for me. It covers my nose fine, but the bottom comes juuuuuust past the edge of my chin, so when I talk, it rides up just a bit. I've been looking at possibly adding a wide elastic edge to the bottom to hold it in position better. It serves the purpose, but could fit a little better. His works great for him. They have a pocket in them to insert a filter if we choose.
It's tough doing it by online purchase - face sizes & shapes vary so much, and styles & sizes vary. Good luck on finding a perfect fit! :D

Yeah, the two sizes of ones we bought locally - was told these were the sizes for most women and most men - are pretty much too short from top to bottom for me (women) and the men's size has elastics too long for him. All have a bendable part for the top of the nose, which helps, but I tried one when I went to Target and couldn't keep both my chin covered and the top part high enough up on my nose at the same time. They're really well sewn, just not the right sizing.

I have some concerns about having people wear masks long term and trying to eliminate all contact with germs. It's similar to the idea that if you sit around and watch Tv instead of being active and exercising your body becomes weak. Same thing with your immune system. If it never has to work it will become weaker and weaker and society will become more susceptible to all bacterial and viral illnesses. This used to be the consensus of the medical/scientific community but this has gone out the window with Covid 19 which does have an elevated mortality rate as compared to the flu but it still appears to be less than 1%. My question is what happens when something escapes from a lab with more of a punch and we all have crappy weakened immune systems? Food for thought?

this is dumb. Masks don’t stop germs completely (unless respirator mask), they stop droplets. This will decrease some but no where near all exposure. However, it is likely enough to significantly change the spread of this illness if the vast majority wore them. You are still exposed to thousands and thousands of germs, bacteria, viruses, antigens per day. Your immune system will be just fine.

No. There's almost certainly no good reason for them not to wear it and wear it properly.

Just wondering if you have regularly worn one?

I have been wearing masks every day since mid-March for work since I deal with the public. 3 out of my 4 children also work in "essential jobs". My wife made cloth masks for all of us since initially there were none to be found to purchase. For 2 of my kids who have asthma, she made them with a pouch where a filter can be placed. I made the filters from a HEPA furnace filter that I disassembled and when the accordian is pulled apart gives enough to make hundreds of filters.
The cloth masks are very comfortable but also get very hot at times. I can see this being an issue at the early football games when the weather is HOT, less of an issue as the weather cools.

Now that the "surgical" masks are more available, I switch off between the cloth and the surgical masks. the surgical ones are cooler but scratchy and my face gets angry at me if I wear them continuously. My cloth masks are washed on a regular basis.

I wear one not because I worry about getting the virus but because I may have the virus and not know it. I come into contact with many older and at risk people every day and would hate to be responsible for infecting someone. Many clients I interact with wear masks, but do so improperly. They have them below the nose most of the time or take them off when they talk. I keep sanitizer and clorox wipes at my desk and offer everyone use of them to minimize the risk as much as possible.

I sure have. I'll be one of the last holdouts wearing one.
Worn them inside, outside, while working, and while walking.
It has never provided an issue of discomfort.

It won't be an issue at football games because Pollard already indicated that they won't be required and he has no desire to enforce anything related to masks. That's one part of the reason I don't trust him in this situation.

I tried to post a picture but it says my file size is too large and I'm not smart
enough to know how to fix it. :(

My thought is stupid? What about the first part of your post?
So to be clear, the first paragraph was just snark and sarcasm.

But yes, I do think the idea that we shouldn't wear masks in public during the pandemic because it may weaken our immune system is dumb

I see in the COVID-19 mitigation plan that electronic tickets are part of the plan. I don't care one way or the other about how tickets get to me, but I do not understand how an electronic ticket is any "safer" than a traditional ticket. I assume one still must show a ticket at the gate--on a phone instead of showing the ticket to a ticket taker. But what is the difference?

Again, I don't care about the tickets, but I am hoping to understand why a ticket on my phone is "safer" than a paper ticket.

Maybe I am just old.
