I've seen some internal COVID data directly from Wintersteen's office and folks, it ain't good. I'd expect them to be online any day now.

ISU is increasing testing availability and doubling contact tracing efforts. Thielen student health is opening up a testing center in Johnny's at Hilton. Majority of the non-NCAA testing targeted those who were showing symptoms.

If someone wants to go out and get themselves sick, all the power to them. Same with helmets/bicycles and the like. I have issue with those that knowingly do that and then go visit vulnerable folks soon after. Imo this is where rapid frequent accurate testing comes into to play maybe to help alleviate that situation. Keep making sure you're negative before you visit/hang out.

When someone knowingly puts others at risk, it's in the same category as drinking and driving, texting/riding a bike/driving a car, no seat belt with others in the car, etc. You're simply putting others' safety at risk.

But what if I feel OK? What if I don't have any symptoms and believe that healthy people don't have a problem and only 6% of deaths are due directly to COVID...

Oh wait....I'd still be an irresponsible ******* if I did that.

Did people die from HIV/AIDS or did they die from pneumonia?

President Wintersteen is giving her Town Hall right now.

18.5% cumulative positivity rate so far. 665 positive cases out of 3598 tests given at Thielen Health.

That being said, no indication that classes will move to online only and it sounds like they will continue with the current plan for the Fall semester.

The sarcasm is thick here...but right now, in this moment, this is what loads of people truly believe.

The CDC must really have the screws put to them lately to push this kind of stuff.

ISU contact tracing explained:
Assuming someone you know has tested positive for COVID-19 you need to get tested if you were within 6ft of that person without a face-covering for more than 15 minutes of continuous talking.

If you are wearing a face-covering and within that 6ft window, as long as you did not speak for more than 15 minutes then there is no reason to get tested, unless you begin to show symptoms.

To me, it's sounding positive for 25% attendance for football games, assuming fans are wearing face-coverings when not in their seats.

A prof friend is convinced (and disappointed) that ISU will fight like hell to get this all the way to Thanksgiving. He's probably right.

Not exactly sure.
Go look up the numbers of people in our country that have those conditions and are at high risk if they get Covid in addition.

Just think of the demographics of a county fair and imagine all of those people getting covid.

The scary thing is somehow, a certain part of our society will run with this narrative that the number of deaths is only 6% of what was previously thought, when that's not true.

The neighboring county had their county fair. I was curious how they would end up case wise because they had basically no mask, but still had packed grand stands and a carnival. So I paid attention for the two to three weeks after it started. Their cases actually decreased, so they managed to have it without adding to the numbers. The numbers are starting to raise now, especially with school, most of the cases are coming from families that summered in Texas and came back days before school started; or at least they are tracing it back to those families. Wife even said one kid told her at the end of Friday that her dad was tested but they don't know if he was positive or negative. Nice that they sent their kid to school anyhow. Apparently someone else questioned the parents over the weekend when it was brought up again, and the parents said that they didn't want to deal with daycare.

ISU is working with the NY Times regarding their recent article and that the numbers NY Times used do not reflect ISU's numbers, or the numbers provided by IDPH.

I was thinking more along the lines of how there's many people at fairs that fit into the categories of high risk if they get Covid. Judgy? Yes, but obesity is a risk factor.

Otherwise that's all very interesting. I just don't know how much outdoor events really spread it if people aren't sneezing on each other.

And the awaiting test results/going about normally is a bad sign at this point in time.

It shut down more then it ever needed too. But only 9,000 of those people actually died from the corona virus

So I know several people that have compromised immune systems. They can generally go about life normally and have no immediate concerns for death from their conditions for the next three weeks or years for that matter.

Are you saying that if they contracted Covid, and died in two weeks, they died from their conditions that weren't currently killing them or weren't going to?

We're worse off than I thought, and that's pretty bad considering my low expectations pre-Covid.

Thanks appreciate I'm so honored someone gave me a dumb rating on the internet better frame it on the fridge

Why bother using a fridge? Only 420 people die from Salmonella in the US each year. Plus, they die from GI tract infections, not the Salmonella bacteria itself, so that 420 number is probably a hoax too, right?
