It’s because the font for our numbers has the 9 almost completely connecting back on the tail like an 8.
And the stupid styling of the 8 makes it look like a 9 at first glance.

Alas, would never work. We no longer have inconsequential guys.Bring it back under the guise it goes to the best player on the team, but give it to some inconsequential guy to serve as a decoy.
Let’s be serious. Would Campbell actually have used anything this season besides Blacks, with white pants as an “alternate”?It is one of the reasons Campbell has not opted for a gold set of either yellow helmet or pant.
No, Campbell doesn’t use gold/yellow because he routinely uses black. Add yellow to that and who do we look like?I can't understand the like/love for our yellow helmet of the mid '80s and early '90s. It is one of the reasons Campbell has not opted for a gold set of either yellow helmet or pant. We still have that shade of gold/yellow. There might be an association of past failure also.
What would work well and did was the gold we had from '68-82, before Criner switched us to the brighter colors. Criner's Unis would have been better with the old gold. Waldon's unis (which were good) would have been great with our '70's gold! No brainer really IMO.
If a team had to rely on the color of the helmet to figure out who the stars were..............well there's no hope for that team.It was a terrible idea. Every opponent knew who to focus on by the helmet color. I was a student in that era. Never want to see that again.
Can't argue with that really. The man does like black. No, Campbell doesn’t use gold/yellow because he routinely uses black. Add yellow to that and who do we look like?

I don’t care what color they wear if they win. Winning cures everythingI mean I would like a gold set personally, but if Campbell wants his black as much as he does, I'll get used to it.
I agree! Atleast to a point. I can't argue with what Campbell is doing.I don’t care what color they wear if they win. Winning cures everything

At first-glance, that looks like two 8's to me.
I like em both, 88 and 89! and #11!Congrats?
I still think that's what caused a couple of the illegal formation/ineligible man downfield penalties early in the year. With 88/89 lined up next to each other, one on the line and one off, the refs need to be really sharp to keep them straight throughout the play. It’s because the font for our numbers has the 9 almost completely connecting back on the tail like an 8.
That particular tornado look was so 1980s. The ISU losing tradition matched it. Criner and Walden. Those helmets and logo should be put into a time capsule, buried and hoping to never be found centuries later.
I respect the opinions of others on this as I know there are several that like it. It's just my 2 cents, nothing more.
So do the officials. They called a penalty on Kolar against TT (I think) maybe OU that negated a TD saying he was ineligible because he was covered up on the line when it was Soehner who was covered up.It would work with Kolar and seohner. I struggle with them and their numbers.
TD wasn't on the team in '98. You must be thinking of Darren.I remember going to see ISU play Colorado in 1998 in Boulder. Troy Davis ran wild that day. Everytime ISU scored, the Buffs stadium scoreboard operator idiots kept showing the old tornado logo. They also had us listed as "Iowa Cyclones." Morons.
