Would TJ drop everything and take the ISU job if it came open?

Maybe some insiders can help me out. I feel like if he gets to a P5 job we’ll have missed our chance with him. He was my #1 pick and the obvious continuation pick but the AD wanted a Jesus man after Fred left.
I don’t think he would leave UNLV at this point. We had our chance on T.J. and blew it. And this wasn’t a JP issue, it was a Steven Leath issue.

Leath wanted Prohm or Leath wanted a religious coach like OP said, or Leath was anti TJ?

I'm not religious personally but it's obvious that it frequently helps in recruiting to have an openly religious coach. I'm sure it's part of why Prohm has nabbed some highly rated recruits.

Some will be critical of TJ's start to the season. Like Steve, he is a hire with risk but there are some things I like about TJ.

Similar to Steve, TJ inherited a machine and sustained it. When Murray State and SDSU during that time went to someone's arena, a win over that program was a "storm the floor" game for that school. I like that experience.

What I like about TJ is that he took on a rebuild. He has to learn to manage a roster that is not good, he has to learn to punch above his weight as a coach which is something he did not do often at SDSU or that Steve did at MSU. TJ will take some bumps and his resume will take a hit this year but the experience of this rebuild will make him a better coach.
Steve is a good recruiter but struggles badly at roster management. Any lesson that TJ can learn before his next job is money in the bank for him. If you think Steve can recruit, you ain't seen nothing yet. TJ is one of the premier coaches in the country at it/

If TJ were to be at ISU next year- it means 1) Steve found something somewhere else because he is not getting let go. You don't fire a coach that donated his salary so the AD did not have to cut positions. 2) TJ was hired and he is cheap and that is good since we need money for football. 3) ISU will always have talent but he needs to put together a solid coaching staff of tactical and regional recruiters. Something Steve never figured out at ISU as it continues to waste time recruiting in the SE US.

TJ is my number 1 candidate and I think he would answer the call.
The Big 12 is an upgrade to the MW. He's a heck of a recruiter and the Big 12 conference would help him land 5 star talent.

Just for some contract info, it looks like if he leaves UNLV after July 1, 2021, it would cost about a milli to buy him from UNLV:
  • Contract Year 1 (March 27, 2019 – June 30, 2020): $1.1 million
  • Contract Year 2 (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021): $1.2 million
  • Contract Year 3 (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022): $1.3 million
  • Contract Year 4 (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023): $1.4 million
  • Contract Year 5 (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024): $1.5 million

"If terminated on or before June 30, 2021: 75%
If terminated on or after July 1, 2021: 25%

If Otzelberger terminates the contract on or before June 30, 2023, the amount owed will be whatever is greater between $1 million and the amount owed following the percentages outlined above."

Leath wanted Prohm. I’m not sure why anyone thinks this has anything to do with religion.

I know there are/were some Wichita State rumblings, but I don't see anyone hiring Prohm from ISU.
There's no way ISU can afford to pay 2 buyouts right now.

I'm not sure that even a full on meltdown, something like 5 wins this year would be enough for JP to make a move on Prohm. He for sure gets this year and next year. If next year looks better, I'd guess he gets another year after that.

If anyone is calling for a coaching change... You really need a reality check because your expectations should not have been very high for 2020-2021
When can ISU fans have expectations again? It won't be next year because someone will leave and the staff will be caught with their pants down-again and people will make excuses- again for this demonstrated incompetence.

You cannot be at the bottom of the league in a P6 league two of the past three years and then lose to a good mid major- but still a mid major and have people be happy with that. If that is the ISU culture then that culture sucks.

That is on the AD who gave the man an unnecessary extension two years ago. Gotta take the good with the bad and the AD screwed the pooch on this one. Bad work out of him. Many people said so at the time too.

Well one “fan” indicated he enjoyed the game.

Losing two studs early to the draft is no different than multiple career ending injuries.

Its a momentum killer unless you're Kentucky plugging in new ones every year, and it needs to be multiple 5*s a year because some won't dominate on day one.

That said, Noah Friedel should not have come into Hilton and dominated like that even against a down ISU team.

Remember, Fred wasn't hired when he wanted to be the head coach the first time.
