I once saw an interview on tv with Weird Al. He was asked by the interviewer (Dan Rather) why he did not do parody songs about politics. He simply said (paraphrasing) " why do a song that could potentially piss off 50% of my fans? "

Even Weird Al knows to be careful when in the public eye.

While from his Checkmark account for the station isn't the best idea to make such a statement its an opinion about sports. Grow up people, there is no reason to contact his managers about this and say things like, 'Well they lost me as a viewer". Just stop.

I agreed, then as a prior post pointed out. Carson (forget his last name right now) did a great deed and a person just like Beau dug up crap from many years ago that wasn’t even that bad and tried to make him out as a racist. I’m conflicted now. I think it’s not a big deal but it is kinda like a media person being subjected to their own treatment. So I’m stepping back and letting this play out. Maybe both sides can learn something here.

Two lessons from this for Beau-

1.) Never use your business twitter account for a personal opinion that will piss off half of your employer's customers and probably 25% of the few friends that you have.

2.) Sending out tweets like this around 1:00 am is not a good look, it demonstrates to your boss that alcohol might have been involved.

I think if people took off their ISU vs Iowa goggles for a second, they would realize that while this tweet really isn't that bad on the surface, that's not the issue. At least for me.

If a person was employed by Car and Driver Magazine and had a Twitter account stating they worked at that magazine and it also said 'I love my Audi!'...that's not a great look because it's showing bias when he's employed by a company that is supposed to be non-biased. If that person then tweets something saying something like "All crossovers that Mazda has suck" that's an issue as well.

If this KCCI guy posted this same stuff on a personal account not associated with KCCI this is non-issue. I just asked my friend who works at KARE-11 up here what he thought of this and his response was 'Big no no. Why doesn't he have a personal account?'.

Because people can never state their fandom and also give objective views? Also, people don't conduct themselves one way at work and another outside of work. Good lord.
There's a lot of things questionable about this beyond that he is a hawk fan. It's not an end of the world thing but if my own kid did this or asked me if it was a good idea, I would tell them to don't be stupid.

I am outraged!
General manager at Kcci is probably telling his co workers “I got all these damn nerds emailing me”

I think by nerds, you mean, butthurt babies that don't understand that when your team is the target of dumb rage tweets from your in-state rival's fans due to your team's success, you've officially become big brother.

This is what winning feels like, boys and girls. It's sort of like all the "thug transfer" comments during Fred's tenure without the overt racism.

This didnt actually happen.

They did a routine background lookup on the guy and included some details of his past tweets in an otherwise glowing story. They were never 'trying to make him out as a racist'. Then a bunch of people who hated the register to begin with (often for political reasons) decided to attack the register and do things like make death threats against a reporter just doing his job.

Let’s not pretend like we were watching KCCI before this guy called the big 12 trash. If anything they probably have a net gain of all the hoks who will now tune in.

Thank you for your email. Beau feels terrible for insulting ISU fans. I believe his intention was to be critical of the playoff system but he understands how ISU fans felt. And in reading his tweets I get why it felt like it crossed the line. I believe he will be apologizing and I hope you’ll accept it.

Thanks for watching and best of luck to the Cyclones.

All my best,

Brian Sather

I got an email too:

"Sorry everyone is being butthurt over something a politics dude said on Twitter about sports. Instead of being mad online, you could just enjoy your first ever trip to the Big 12 Championship."
