Who could we hire that could do better than Prohm? Certainly not even the last guy that coached here.
Seriously? I think the last five coaches we had could do better and three of them doesn’t even coach anymore.

A lot of coaches would do much better than Prohm. I heard the exact same flawed argument about McDermott.

I could go either way. I think hanging on to Prohm for a bit is more beneficial to the athletic department in the long run. Need to save $ as much as possible, and a new basketball coach is going to be costly. Plus, we’ve all criticized Iowa for hanging on to Fran for so long for apparently no good reason, now he’s got a strong roster that’s top in the nation. This year is so screwy anyways with how little practice the team got in when really Rasir and Young are the only real holdovers from last year. We’ve suffered from early entrants to the nba lately mostly with how the nba is switching up how they’re pulling talent. Let’s see what next year brings given we don’t lost foster to the draft(still too rough to go in my opinion)

don’t take this as some BS about accepting mediocrity, but just looking at the reality of the current situation.

Forgive me for not picking up my pitch fork with the rest of you. This may not turn out to be the most fun basketball season in my Iowa State fandom, but Prohm is the coach and that won't change before the end of the year. So how about if we take a deep breath, step back from the ledge, and watch to see how the season plays out.

Prohm has proven that he isn't a great Xs and Os guy, and rarely seems to out fox the other team schematically. But let's not pretend like he isn't the best high school recruiter that we have had in a long time and he has a pretty solid track record of developing guys and getting them to the pros.

He has had some issues with large exits of talent leaving the cupboard bare and making for some painful seasons, but part of that is because he is bringing in players who end up going pro early and in many cases earlier than expected. Funny how it was everyone on this board's wet dream to get a one and done player until we actually got one under Prohm in THT and everyone was pissed that he didn't play like a polished senior and then was mad at him for leaving "too early."

More than that, Prohm is a solid human being and he is a Cyclone. He loves this place and his players, who are also Cyclones. So I will be cheering for Prohm and the boys for the rest of the year - hoping to see the light turn on for some of these young guys, and the rest of the newcomers to develop some chemistry. Just like with CPR or McCarney, the time may come when he has to be cut loose, but that won't be something to celebrate. It will be a bummer that it didn't work out.

That time may well be at the end of this season, depending on how everything ends up. But like other's have said the financial situation with covid may end up buying him at least next season too, regardless. I won't lose any sleep over it one way or the other. I'm just here to cheer for the Cyclones and right now that includes Prohm.

love it.

like I said earlier, not accepting mediocrity, but a college coach’s job is to ultimately prepare his kids for the next level. Prohm is consistently sending his players to the NBA. No scandals, fits ISU culture and is relatively cheap. Let’s play out the season and see what next year brings.

Please give us a good reason why Steve Prohm should still be the coach at Iowa State. I’ve never placed a bet on the Hawks and I feel sick to my stomach that the biggest bet I’ve ever placed was for the Hawks against my Cyclones.

You placed a bet against the Cyclones? Sorry, your opinion about coaching is nothing, you POS.

Then you’re the only person to blame. You’re the one that chose to make the bet. No one else. Genius.

Gosh, I’m shocked a team full of new guys, that’s only been able to play two games, that was riddled with preseason injuries in a COVID year, lost to a team loaded with multi year starters and has already played FOUR games —and that’s ranked #3 in the country.

SHOCKED, I tell you!

Geniuses. Go back and look at the game threads in the football forum right after the Louisiana game.

And shut the **** up until after this team has had a chance to play together and work out kinks.

Freaking dumbass meltdown threads.
What's your excuse for last years record?

The really sad part of that tonight's game was actually a pretty good offensive performance from ISU. They were shooting it way better than usual and still got smoked.

And as far as "Prohm is an elite recruiter" goes, I have to wonder if the people saying that are high on something. One 4 star top 100 kid per class and a bunch of average 3 stars is not impressive.

You act like we want Prohm to fail. No one here wants Prohm to fail, we want the Cyclones to win every single game they play. If we weren’t allowed to question the coaches ability last year, and still not allowed to this year, when can we if we’re not seeing improvement?

Of course you are allowed. You don't need my permission. But if that's your goal then lets talk about his coaching abilities, the pluses and minuses that he brings to the table, and perhaps compare him to some of our coaches from the past for context. But lets not pretend that is what this thread is. It's an angry mob after an ugly loss to a rival we have been better than for a decade, but who is in the middle of their dream season.

I would welcome mediocrity with open arms right now.
