I am not sure now is the time to change coaches. Coach Prohm has a kid Iowa recruited hard and lost. If JP changes ship now that kid changes ship also ,,, and you all know where!!!! I do like what Fran has built through recruited kids and not the Transfer U route, and as much as will hurt most of you,,, Iowa"s JB has killed us , he left shoe tracks at the free throw line , and he still to this day relishes it. I am really looking forward to see where the Hoks end up , and will be hard not to have eyes on them against Gonzaga.

Plus the reason XF signed with the Cyclones cause we were trending up and Frans boys were headed the other direction, Fran has some players now and XF can see the direction and would be gone in a heartbeat!!!!

Using the $3m buyout as a baseline for what ISU power brokers could get together for a buyout - here are some coaches on this list i would like to see targeted

Mark Turgeon $350k buyout
Dana Altman $3m buyout
Lon Kruger $500k buyout
Bobby Hurley $2.5m buyout
Tad Boyle $500k buyout

Those are all awesome options but Pollard has shown he will never hire (i.e. pay) top dollar for an established coach. He’ll go the up and comer or assistant route.

What's it matter my longevity , face it Fran has it going over there in BB because of kids that want to play for them more than a couple years , I see it , I get it and just reporting the facts that
have stepped up and bit us in the A--. now if Prohm can get it going with his commitment phase he stands a good chance , cause the guy can flat A-- coach, he has proven that. prob the best coach since JO, i really think that he is a lot better than FH , by a long shot

Devries would be a great hire. Tons of Midwest ties, a proven winner, and a great coach (MVC Coach of the Year). Drake would beat us by 15 this year.

I want CSP to work because I believe he would stay and continue to bring good talent to ISU. Frankly his biggest job this year is letting the new core play, take lumps and develop and then essentially “re-recruit” all of the freshman and sophomore and convince them not to transfer. If he sees another 3-4 players transfer, it’s over and the first call would be to Des Moines for Devries.

The problem is that Prohm has not shown he can develop a big man. I believe he is a good recruiter, but I really don't see the comment about his level of coaching. His in-game coaching and offense are bewildering.

BTW, I would love for him to work out, but this is year 6 and the writing is on the wall.

You are not a reporter of facts, you are making opinions just like 90% of the other posters on this board.

Fran does not have it going in Iowa City. He struck gold in Garza. When Garza came to Iowa he was projected as a serviceable big man and Garza has developed himself into a generational college big man.

Take Garza, Bohannon and Wieskamp off the Iowa team next season and I am not sure that is a .500 team in Big10 play.

You are obviously tanked if you think SP is the best coach at ISU since JO. One could argue that SP is ISU's worst coach (based on W/L record) since Lynn Nance!

Bingo. I think Fran has enough of a track record to know what he's gonna bring to the table, more often than not. There is zero evidence that this year will be anything more than a flash in the pan for the hawks. It could be a very bright flash, but a flash nonetheless.

All that said, ISU is in a bad spot right now. And I'm worried that quick fixes aren't around the corner. Cyclone basketball made me a Cyclone fan. And this fan is sad.

The Iowa State job at the moment is worse than all of those right now. Not that it would matter because Pollard won't hire any of them anyways.

To me this time around you need a person who has built a program (preferably two programs) at a lower level. This is no longer a “maintain” situation this will be a full rebuild.
That list will look like this:
Joe Golding, Abilene Christian
Ryan Odom, UMBC
Scott Nagy, Wright State
Darian DeVries, Drake
Brian Wardle, Bradley,
Niko Medved, Colorado State
TJ Oztelberger, UNLV
Craig Smith, Utah State

I think there are 3 coaches on that list I would consider: Smith, Oztelberger and DeVries.

Assuming Jamie Pollard is the AD that hires our next basketball coach, I think as fans we have a pretty good blueprint of the type of person he will hire. He is not going to hire a coach who has off court scandal in his past or who doesn't develop his players as people or value the academic aspect of college athletics. Aka he is not going to hire a guy like Kelvin Sampson if Kelvin begged to come to ISU for $1/year.

IMO Pollard has learned something with each successful and unsuccessful hire he has made. I think one lesson from the Prohm hiring has been it helps to have a coach with strong ties in the upper Midwest and can recruit effectively within a 6 hour radius of Ames.

I also think with the current social justice environment, there will be a lot of emphasis at seriously considering a black man as the next head coach at ISU. Not saying ISU must hire a black coach, but I would expect Jamie will have 1 or 2 qualified black coaches among his top 3-4 candidates.

Others have mentioned Mark Turgeon and Thad Boyle and they would definitely be worth a call to garner interest in a new challenge. Other guys who have been successful at a P5 school, but might be interested in a new challenge could be: Matt Painter, Nate Oates or Anthony Grant.

Lastly, I would think JP would be wise to look among assistants at Baylor, KU, Tech, etc. to see if there is a candidate who understands the Big12.
