Those complaining about the announcer, I guess maybe I’m sympathetic or don’t think he is as bad, I am curious about which have you have called multiple wrestling meets? As having done that for many seasons, it’s a hard sport to call at times.

I hear you, and it’s not a job that I envy, but it’s also not like this is a parent volunteer calling a YouTube live stream of a 1A high school team. He’s paid to do it.

I just think we could find somebody better.

Not exactly sure.
That is a fair question - kind of. No, I have not called multiple college meets, but I have listened to multiple hundreds through the years, and I know enough about wrestling at all levels to understand how difficult it can be, but also to recognize a good announcing team from those that are not as good. Same goes for football games. I love Tom for all that the does Cyclone, and he is a great guy by all accounts. I just am not a fan of the presentation that I see here. Sometimes it is a catch phrase that you just can't unhear (like Jim Gibbons' 'go ahead' or Tom's "look out!") and sometimes it is the team that has the "IT" factor that I think we are lacking. I don't know what other great options we have, but I would love to see some other former wrestlers take the mic to see what they can do.
I will give you that, it is slightly dry. I haven’t done college but have done HS a fairly good time. It is harder when it’s telecast since you generally don’t have great views. There were times that I had to just admit that I have no idea what’s going on since the ref is blocking my view. Only so many times that you can talk about hand fighting and collar ties.

I got to switch it up once and the station brought in a 40 year veteran coach for pxp and let me do color. He was banging out technique and detailed holds. I piped in with color and ticked him off. On a break we pulled headgears and I mentioned that if he wanted to grow the base, he couldn’t make the listener feel dumb (explain some holds during slow times so people understand) and I will sprinkle in some team details that only an insider (son was on the team) would know. He slowed down and it went fairly well after that.

Yep

125 - starter is out
133 - big boy win
141 - hammer
149 - very disappointing. He didn't look right
157 - NCAA Champ
165 - win
174 - disappointing
184 - missed locked hands cost a chance at OT
197 - win
HWT - good win
Good for you. Guess I’d prefer something better than mediocrity.

After this weekend I see NCAA points at 141, 149, 157 and HWT. Although Degan today?
Possibly 133 and 184. Colbray needed more matches Big 12’s huge for him.
125, 165, 174 and 197 have work to do.
Would liked to have seen Coleman against Norfleet.

It is a hard sport to call when you don't know what the heck yur talking about....kind of like TK. I'm sorry, but when he didn't know Fargo was no folkstyle....that's bad. It would be similar to someone broadcasting golf, but not knowing where the Masters is played.

Joel Devine (Shapiro) beat Cade Belshay 7-2 in extra match. Same guy that Sam beat 6-5?

Belshay is very tall. Was tough for Colbray (who is very short) to really get anything going. Should also note that Belshays match against Joel was his 3rd of the day and that was Joel’s first

Kroeschell could be better, but I did enjoy his comment about Dubuque being in the northeast corner of the Tall Corn State.

Overall I was happy with how we competed. Main concerns are Degen’s health at 149 and getting Julien some confidence before Tulsa. I was happy with what I saw from Redding, Parker, Carr, Judge, Colbray, Coleman, and Grem. I think it’s time to hand over 197 to Marcus for the rest of the year. Also need Kysen back healthy.

I mean look at this season and the potential:

125 - Ranked starter got beat out by a true freshman who is hurt now

133 - Sure fire All American has to retire and a true freshman just knocked off a ranked kid today

141 - Hammer who hopefully comes back next year

149 - All American who has been out all year and has a good true freshman backup. Can also return next rear

157 - NCAA Champ

165 - Frustrating

174 - Freshmen with potential

184 - Colbray has been out all year but will make noise in March and come back

197 - Coleman has been out and the Cuban is going to be good

HWT - Will be an All American who can come back

That's a nice blend of promising youth and talented upperclassmen. We've had awful luck with injuries this year and are still top 10. Things are going in the right direction no doubt
