And if he doesn't it will be Steve Prohm's fault.
Sure. Nothing will be TJ's fault around here
And if he doesn't it will be Steve Prohm's fault.
Yeah, and if he beat San Jose St. twice that will even his conference record at 7-7. Then 6 of those wins would be against teams with a combined conference record of 6-38. Doesn't exactly jump out as whoa........"let's get him"! But here we are.
Don’t worry it will still be Hoiberg’s fault. And if he doesn't it will be Steve Prohm's fault.
But the fan revolt doesn't matter. 1300 can attend home games. Who the **** cares if fans are pissed off on twitter.
By next October, we'll all think TJ has an NCAA tournament team. LIKE WE ALWAYS DO.
Does Prohm actually teach Solo to play defense like this or is he just that bad of defender? Good lord lol
If you are so worried about Prohm and his family, then its the civil thing to do, to put this to sleep. Mercy Kill this guys ISU career.
I don’t care if it’s T.J. or not but I do follow the Mountain West fairly closely because my son likes Colorado State.
If UNLV wins its final four games which it should they finish 12-11 and 9-7. They are the 6th best team in the MWC. Three or four of the teams above him are going to the NCAA Tournament and have vastly better rosters in Utah State, San Diego State, Boise State and Colorado State. UNLV played Colorado State away and lost by 3 both times. They played Boise State away and lost one of the meetings by two. They split with Utah State at home with a far inferior roster in experience and talent. He doesn’t blow me away with his results at UNLV but it’s not like he is getting drilled by the best teams either.
Don’t worry it will still be Hoiberg’s fault.
Where we are currently:
- 11 straight overall losses
- 16 straight Big 12 losses
- 5-25 Big 12 record past two seasons
- Average loss margin of 13ppg this season
- Two years ago to the day of our last true road win (not neutral)
I think this has been hashed out plenty of times but the problem isn’t liking another option more. The problem is there are certain people who need to trash TJ continuously.I follow it a little also because one of my kids classmates plays in that league. And right now T.J. has only two wins of consequence. Well........one. Because Kansas State doesn't count. So that's one more than Steve Prohm since Steve has none. His win against the Aggies is the mark this year. Because I have time following it......those three teams below them are on about par with ISU right now.
So like I have said.......IMO Iowa State can do better. I fear however the dye has been cast and the comfortable decision has been made. Personally......Travis Ford would be/have been my first call. Then if you can get Fred..........I know....not happening. I'm just not sold on T.J., nothing personal.
Travis Ford would be interesting. Proven he can win at a high level in the Big 12I follow it a little also because one of my kids classmates plays in that league. People are about to get a first hand look at what a bare cupboard really looks like.Maybe if T.J. would have taken the job right after Fred. No.........I think T.J./whoever is next will have a Steve Prohm buffer for many years to come.
Travis Ford would be interesting. Proven he can win at a high level in the Big 12

Tell me how firing him today helps Iowa State basketball.
I'll say this, going back and looking at the actual rosters makes me realize his recruiting did not drop off until his last year. But it did drop off, hard. Not that Custer or Tsalmpouris were bad players, but they were never successful at ISU, which in my opinion is the measure we should use to determine if a coach is doing a good job recruiting.Alright, there's a lot to unfold here and a lot that I've bolded but I'll give a whack at it...
You say "it seems his coaching may not have been as good as we thought" however I can't quite tell where that opinion is coming from. Fred's offensive mind was incredible and his ability to find mismatches in defenses was astounding.
In the original post you quoted from me, I mentioned that it was not some coincidence that Tim Myles was let go on the EXACT same day Prohm was extended. It was literally the same day AND 3 days after Prohm told Alabama that he was not interested in taking the job. If you can look by those facts and think those are indeed a coincidence and Iowa State extending Prohm didn't influence Fred's decision, then fine.
It would certainly be weird for Fred Hoiberg to return to be the next head coach, but it wouldn't be hostile. It would be the exact opposite of hostile. He would be loved by pretty much 99% of the fanbase. You must be forgetting that literally the year after Fred left he was back in Ames tailgating in his parking spot at Jack Trice.. He could barely move without people coming over and asking for photos / trying to talk to him. Would there be more animosity now that we suck? Maybe, but he could EASILY win over those who still have bad blood.
You say "his high school recruiting completely dropped off his last few years"... HEH? In his last 3 classes at Iowa State, he brought in guys by the name of Georges Niang, Naz Long, Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, Clayton Custer and The Big Greek. I'm assuming you're focusing more on the last two guys which were Fred's last class, but Clay ended up being a MVC POY and Giorgos was a 7'1" 17 year old who could shoot. Fred stopped recruiting late in the 2014-2015 season because he knew he was leaving for the NBA, that's why we didn't bring in anyone from high school that next year. It wasn't because he lost his eye for seeing talent.
Fred's team that he inherited from Nebraska was not the team Tim Miles coached his final year. There were some good seniors, including Isaiah Roby who's in the NBA now, who Fred did not have the luxury of acquiring in year one. Fred already landed two high level transfers who are his leading scorers and will be back next year, and he's bringing in a top-25 and #3 recruiting class in the Big 10 for next year with the best recruit in Nebraska history.
Fred's not making them worse. There hasn't been enough time for him to make them better and this year is not a good year to try and prove he's a good coach or not.

TJ has flaws but so does every coach we might hire.
I would second that. Great success currently at a hard place to win - Saint Louis. And had big wins at Okla StateTravis Ford would be interesting. Proven he can win at a high level in the Big 12
