Bought an upgraded set with one of my first "real-job" paychecks post-graduation.

Driver: TaylorMade AeroBurner 10.5 degree
Woods: Top Flite (I don't play woods much so I went cheap)
Hybrid: Nike Vapor Speed 3 hybrid
Irons: Callaway X-Series N415
Wedges: Cleveland 588 RTX
Putter: Odyssey Works Versa Sabertooth

Bonus: I still keep a Rawlings Triple Crown SW in the bag from like the late 90s/early 00s...Partly due to feeling comfortable with the feel and partly nostalgia. Works like a charm.

PXG prototype driver
Rogue 17 degree
PXG 3-g 311 irons Gen 2
Mack Daddy 54/58
PXG mini gun boat putter

I did buy a 64callaway PM wedge to screw around with. Have not put in bag for a tournament

Now this is an expensive bag. Heard Gen4’s are on the way, and can get Gen2’s delivered off the PXG website for about $125/iron. Gen3’s for about $199/iron.

Not sure if legit though.

I am interested in golf lessons as well. I haven't golfed in about 15 years and want to get back into it since I retired. Anyone have recommendations for the Ames area???

I get it if you’re thinking you will be really out of sorts. I will say that there are so many great YouTube channels out there giving out the most progressive and modern coaching that there is. I just feel like established in the flesh teaching pros in most places are going to be old school/whenever they were in school.

If you need someone to like set you up, show you what the fairway is, completely revamp your grip or something then a live session is probably reasonable.

I never had lessons, and was all over the place. One shot may go right down the fairway, the next shot may go 2 fairways over. I know I picked up bad habits. Looking to take a couple to give me the proper basics, watch my swing and get me somewhat straight. Would much rather have live person that can analyze and give pointers.

I have always played AP2's before. I got the Gen 2's mid summer, doing the fitting with the PXG rep makes all the difference. I was fit for the AP2's also - for me the PXG go very straight and it added about 7 mph of ball speed versus the AP2s

I would recommend them. The wedges Sugar Daddy's are where they get expensive.

Really the like the driver and putter too.

AP2’s are really nice irons.

Heading out today for the first time since October 10, 2020 according to my Grint. Got some Intel on the course I’m playing from someone that played it yesterday. I might not even putt lol.

Also, who's got tips on beginner/improvement clubs? I'm looking through some options to replace my 10+ year old hodgepodge of s***.

I had no idea clubs have massively gotten stronger lofts. Hit a buddies 8 iron about 175 this summer, my TM Burners from 1997 go about 155. I was like, whoah these are so much better, then I realized it was lofted the same as my 6 iron.

Not of this World
Went to the range last night, first time hitting outside this year. Felt good.
Looking to get some new irons ordered sometime this week. Just need to get up to Ft Dodge to Golf Central and get fitted.

What all goes into a fitting?
A lot of it has to do with shaft fitting, lengthfinding the right shaft flex for your swing speed, etc.

Determining lie angle needed (do you strike the ground with the heel or toe of the club).

Then obviously matching the club head with your swing consistency (more forgiveness for someone who hits off center frequently).

There’s more to it, but that’s the gist of it.

I’d recommend a club fitting to anyone who is going to spend a decent chunk of change on clubs and plans to have them awhile. Worth it.

Need to upgrade my entire bag as most everything is 10 years old. Probably going to pull the trigger on a PXG Gen 3 bag deal. $3,000 for the bag and 14 clubs.
My other options is Callaway Apex irons, Mavrik driver, fairway wood and hybrid and Jaws wedges. Total price of that though is dang near $3,000 as well. Could get it cheaper going with last years models, but man I hit the PXG so much better than the Apex. The Apex was good, but the PXG 311p just blew my mind.
