Give TJ a shot. Prohm killed the Program that TJ helped build with Fred. The Anyone But TJ Crowd will be very entertaining. Looking forward to it.

As I have said repeatedly, once the new guy is named no one will be more loyal than me.

But don’t try and spin this as TJ being the god damn savior. He’s not.

Bring in a good/great staff. You need a good/great staff as a head coach. Campbell is successful cause he relates well has a good football mind, but has a really good staff that has gotten better as time has gone by.
Which is funny because pretty much EVERYBODY was worried because Campbell was bringing his hommie's from Toledo.

Hard pass.

If you can't win at Illinois, with the quantity of quality recruits available, then you are not coaching well. A good coach would have Illinois in the top 20 just about all the time.

This is the type of guy Pollard would hire. Not even on the radar

I want you to know I googled that term. And I still don't understand what it means. In basketball coaching hire terms, I mean.
The best way I can describe it, Dennis Gates checks a lot of marks. Long time assistant at a high major level. Great recruiter both as assistant and HC (relative to his conference), seems to be a great personality, back to back coach of the year in his conference, and won both regular and tournament conference championships.

His only knock is he has been a coach for 2 years.

I used the texas hold'em analogy because those points in favor are the flop. the first three cards revealed. The experience part would be the turn and river which we can't afford to wait on.

You pretty much are buying his stock before it explodes. Now the question is does he have interest coming here? He is from Chicago, but played on the west coast and was coaching in florida before cleveland.

John Groce is reported to be interviewing today. A plane landed in Ames from Akron, OH this morning.
That plane was scheduled to land in Boone originally but got diverted to Ames. Doubt it was John Groce.

That's correct, but that's because Ames was supposed to have a flight leaving today around the same time but that flight got cancelled.

I haven't read into Gates much yet, but the rest of the comment is spot on. People want a proven coach at the power conference level. Those guys costs millions of dollars and go to blue bloods! We have to take a calculated risk and go after guys that might not have the experience or success at this point in their career yet.

If we er Jamie can't get DeVries, then I would say give TJ a shot at turning this around....I was here for all of the Johnny Orr years and that took four years to turn around and I will give whichever coach Jamie chooses FOUR YEARS to turn this mess around.
I WILL SUPPORT ANY OF THE AFOREMENTIONED COACHES....GO CYCLONES!

Good Quote from Star Tribune Article. Talked about Minnesota Recruits and UM but It applies to TJ.

“Like anything else in life, if you're with a person so long, you see their warts, you don't see their beauty. I think that happens to that school a lot with recruiting within the state. Everyone sees the negative things.“

There you go again. TJ is going to be a failure in your mind no matter what. Which is BS.

They remain great friends, which is why everyone is concerned about Jamie’s decision. Does he actually believe TJ is the guy to right the ship or is a friend trying to help out the other?

Again...I'm not for or against this being the best hire, but in answer to your question, why can't it be both: an 'in' or connection with a friend and the guy to right the ship especially under the budget circumstances?

Give me Fred. Bring in the 5 star Mcgowens and convince Hunter to stay. If that backcourt were to stay for more than one or 2 years, it would dominate college ball. Fred’s buyout won’t work though.

Isn't McGowens going to Nebraska because of his brother? I guess with the new transfer rules his brother could also transfer to Iowa State.
