Washington went 18-16 and 9-9 year before Otz. 17-15 and 9-9 in Otz's first year there. Second year? After time to recruit and bring more expertise? 16-15. 5-13. Year after he left? 19-15 and 9-9. Somebody show me the magic please.

Right, so what you can judge TJ is his time as an actual HC at SDSU and UNLV. He did well at SDSU but he's not exactly doing well at UNLV.
And this brings me back to the point last night. You conduct a fair coaching search to get the best available coach, for your budget, who is also interested. Anything less is frankly BS even if you believe you absolutely want someone in particular. You still do some bits of a search regardless.
Are we truly going to believe in the current COVID environment there will be in-person interviews only? JP could be conducting Zoom after Zoom after Zoom and no one on here would know.

IF no coaching search had been done, then it's not fair to legitimate other candidates who are actually interested in the position. I'm not sure why this is so hard for some people to grasp.
