So he wasn’t even on the bench for games or coaching at practice? I didn’t know that. I wonder if TJ offered him an actual assistant coach position, he would take it?He wasn't an assistant like a regular assistant.
"When I agreed to join Fred at Nebraska as Special Assistant, there was positive momentum in the NCAA for allowing an additional person to actively coach during practice and games. That has not happened."
Why did TJ leave for Washington back in the day?
Already booking March 9-13th 2022 in KC for our tourney run. Hilton South is about to be reborn
In the Instant Reaction live cast at the noon hour, Williams said that it is more than likely he comes to Ames.So he wasn’t even on the bench for games or coaching at practice? I didn’t know that. I wonder if TJ offered him an actual assistant coach position, he would take it?
His mentor McD had a thesis in the postgame for why his teams lost. Great basketball mind when in hindsight.Prohm never seemed to have concrete ideas, just spoke with cliche after cliche.
If TJ can give thoughtful answers in post game interviews and if he can keep the ball from sticking in a players hands for long stretches, I'm in
Why did TJ leave for Washington back in the day?
I believe he wanted to take over for Hoiberg when he left right? Why did TJ leave for Washington back in the day?
Why did TJ leave for Washington back in the day?
They were in the second year of a big rebuild. And they were able to beat Kansas State. Prohm couldn't do that in his 6th year. I am convincing myself to like this hire. While I agree, UNLV can say the same thing.
That said, aren’t we hiring TJ because he’s one of the very few that csn flip the roster that fast?
I remember at the time there was some talk that he wanted to be a HC but only ever having been at Iowa State was a knock against him. This was at the time Phelps retired from Drake and Otz interviewed but they hired Giacoletti instead. He left for Washington after that. Why did TJ leave for Washington back in the day?
I largely agree with what you wrote, but if COVID hadn’t happened it’s still likely Prohm would have been gone. In this alternate reality and without the COVID hole in the budget, isn’t it likely TJ still gets the job at a hometown discount. Many already in the surrender cobra position...not even giving them a shot. Many on here were crapping on the school when Fred was hired.
After boosting the football staff salaries, COVID reductions, etc. there just isn't the option of spending big $'s. Hell, our annual athletic revenue is $56M smaller than Iowa's...the difference alone is 2/3rd's of our entire revenue stream. Hard to even compete with that.

So Jamie went with someone that is familiar with the university, isn't going to cost an arm and a leg, and could even succeed. Should Jamie have gone with a hot mid-major? The Utah State coach is already in a bidding war between Minnesota and Utah, both of which have greater revenue streams than Iowa State. How about an assistant coach...high risk/reward. Jamie pushed the easy button and the program can now move forward.
I'd encourage actually watching this video. Its got kind of a weird vibe
My mom's name is Phyllis as well, she would notice it too. This is something you notice? Lol!
One positive I think most if not all Cyclone fans are in favor of us running an honest program, despite all the cheating and payoffs that the NCAA does nothing about. I don't know TJ at all, just his reputation, but I think we can safely assume he will be fair and honest the way we want. Tough to compete against the liars and cheaters but that is what the Iowa State job requires and so Coach Otz fits that bill.
Also, I can't imagine anyone would work harder to succeed here than he will. Plus having a spouse that likely wants to be here, that helps. So, I think this can work, let's give it a chance.
It might actually be a fine hire. We'll know when he fills out his bench. Gotta have a post and rebounding expert. Many of us are just upset with the process and Jamie's arrogance. If Otz works out, he might be our version of Drew at Baylor. That's what I want, Hoiball with some rebounding and decent defense. They were in the second year of a big rebuild. And they were able to beat Kansas State. Prohm couldn't do that in his 6th year. I am convincing myself to like this hire.
Do you know when you'll be ok again? Why do we think an ace recruiter and the former unlv coach is 100% above board?
There’s plenty of rumors that brackins got money here.
And it’s fine if he’s not! That’s good!
