This isn’t about where UNLV was in the 80’s, but 3 years ago. The roster crumbled under TJ, they regressed. Next year’s roster was going to be a question, and TJ likely let go.

Where were they 3 years ago?

Has anyone seen cat since Prohm was fired? He always seemed to be a close friend/family member of Prohm.
Cat wanted TJ. He actually said it was a foregone conclusion he was going to be coach months ago. That son of a ***** was right.

I don't think so. I think once the hire is a few days old, even the hardest core against the hire will fall in line.

However, I don't think that some will be very forgiving if TJ struggles, especially after the first year.
I give some people on here a whole half of basketball where the team struggles before their "support" for TJ goes out the window.

He's got to show something in year 1. Not a tourney bid or anything but competence and effort would be great. That would go for any coach we hired.
I’d be shocked if we don’t get AT LEAST 4 or 5 conference wins in Year 1. Especially with the new transfer rules. I think some are underestimating just how bad of job Prohm did to go 0-18. KSU went 4-14 and going into the last week of the season we were actually ahead of them in KenPom.

Year 2 should be competing for postseason, ncaa depending on one or two players going our way, as well as luck.

Last time I checked TJ wasn’t the coach 3 years ago.
Bingo!
TJ inherited a better situation than what typically gets blamed for being mediocre in Year 2, with ominous signs for Year 3. You don’t need to point to the 80’s for this year to be a disappointment for UNLV. If you watched UNLV, it didn’t look good.

Yeah because circumstances never matter.
Nice strawman.

Circumstances do matter, but generally you don’t want to jump straight to the circumstance, “prove they can’t work” guys.

Circumstances are nuances that a guy like Jamie has little chance of navigating, and that’s before it’s when looking at his friend. Most ADs don’t.

Yeah because circumstances never matter.
Last I checked Covid was a global pandemic, not a local one to the Las Vegas area. I have no doubt it influenced UNLVs season, but literally every team in the country dealt with and is still dealing with it. I just don't buy it as an excuse to completely look past their relative struggles this year.

TJ escorted a couple of players to the transfer portal in his first year (who are now doing well at other schools), and even pushed Amauri Hardy, now at Oregon, out the door last year (who he actually really needed this year, since Jenkins turned out to not be who we thought he would be). The ones that left when Menzies was fired were JTT of Baylor, and Ntambwe who left TT before the year started, after sitting out a year. Both good players.

Don't worry, I'm sure they will lock that thread at any moment.
