With Kyle Green now official, expect Blount to be official middle part of the week. This will really be an outstanding staff put together by TJ, very excited for the TJ era.
It is a weak staff tactically but even at that- an improvement from the previous bunch.
This collection of guys will not out scheme too many in our league. They don't suck tho- talent level will increase for sure. Something people grossly misjudged over the past two seasons was our severe lack of high major recruiting and talent acquisition

Commuting? That’ll get old fast - especially during the season with late games. Hope he and family eventually move to Ames or I’d question this hire lasting long. I know I’d get burned out with long commutes all the time.

I would guess he has a place in Ames and basically lives there during the season except for off days

Curious why you believe "weak staff tactically"?
Very open to your opinion but Green and Blount are considered excellent coaches at Mid-Majors by everything I've seen and ready for the P6 level.

Arnie Romano did this when he was on Walden’s staff. He kept his primary residence in Florida and basically lived out of a suitcase in Ames. He recruited some outstanding Florida talent to Ames including Troy Davis.

Land Shark, why would you say that? Good grief
You look at what other schools have on staff? Did you watch UNLV play? TJ needs some X's and O's help. You can mock this post now but you will be discussing this next January.

What makes CMC's staff really work? Heacock, right? Every staff needs a Heacock type- basketball included, they need a hoops version of Heacock. Other Big 12 programs have that type of coach on staff as an assistant or that dude is the HC (Weber)

TJ needs a Heacock type staffer.

What credentials do you have to make declarations on a college basketball coaches X’s and O’s skills? Are you a college level coach yourself? What training do you have in high level basketball coaching?

Williams and Blum really hyped up TJs staff.. they are better than the previous bunch but have to say I’m not overly wowed.
It's a good staff not a great one. Maybe that is all we can afford- not sure. Just because I am not gushing about them means that I hate them or that I am cheering against them. It is just the opposite, I am pulling hard for them and they are vastly improved over what we had IMO.
When you look at the accomplishments of assistants throughout the league and compare it to ours, it is just light. Granted, Blount is still pretty young and Kyle has been a career #2 at a very nice mid-major program. D-Rob is really not good at in-game coaching and I dare you to find someone to make such a claim.

Hey- this could work and work well. Wayne Morgan took a team to the NCAA's with a far worse staff than this. In fact, I think that they will succeed here on some level. Time will tell.

That said- I hope he adds a sage voice in the admin role.

Since you are counter to my opinion-Tell me what you think this group does well or will do well? I know, we need to wait and see before saying something stupid. Why? It is conjecture on a message board, right? Is that not what this is for? Why are you excited about this group? What qualifications and high level basketball training do you have to feel that way?

When compared to our Bg 12 peers that have coaches on staff at the moment- This group is short on experience, success, and achievement. It is long on recruiting connections and that is good, very good.

TJ was not well regarded for in-game adjustments and his team defense. People see UNI next to Kyle's name and assume that defense was him, was it? You will be shocked at the answer

I like the Bount hire but tell me, what is it that you are excited about? Does he teach wing positioning better than most in our league? Does Kyle teach post defense better than the staff Bruce Weber has?

I get it, we want to be excited. Maybe it is the wrong time to analyze what this group has done and been responsible for and some of you are tired of looking at the program from a dark lens. I guess that is how I see it.

Go back and read my post again. Whatever this is doesn’t address anything in my post.

Why hasn't this staff landed Chet Holmgren from Minnesota and Patrick Baldwin Jr from Wisconsin yet? Thought they wanted to get midwest guys? Complete failure by the staff so far. :jimlad:

I mean, MSchoultz is just citing a national reporters ranking of Asst. coaches . Does Goodman have an ISU bias?
How serious can you take a poll that has D-Rob as one of the top 5 assistants in the league? I can give you almost 5 admins in the conference better than him. Sean Sutton, Barry HInson, Fred Quartlbaum all admins that are better instructors than D-Rob.

Mark Adams, Tang, Broussard, Scott Sutton, Ron Everhart, Ulric Maligi all better than D-Rob and Texas and OU have not even filled out staffs yet. That ranking was fluff.
